The Position Doing now what patients need next. The customer area Near Patient Care (NPC) unites Roche’s Point of Care and Diabetes Care portfolios. Our ambition is to improve disease management by enabling critical answers and personalized care, closer to the people we serve. With our passion we bring testing closer to patients and empower people to better monitor their own health and help healthcare professionals make faster, more confident decisions closer to the patient. Within NPC Operations, we are globally accountable for the end-to-end production of solutions for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), blood glucose monitoring (BGM), and insulin delivery (IDS), as well as Point-of-Care (POC) products. The most relevant internal manufacturing sites are Mannheim in Germany and Indianapolis in the USA. Your new team As Manufacturing Science and Technology in NPC Operations, we bridge the gap between development and manufacturing. With around 200 colleagues across Mannheim, Indianapolis, and Rotkreuz, we lead technology strategy, product design industrialization, and collaboration with external partners throughout the product lifecycle. As a project-based organization, we enable scalable product designs ready for mass production, ensure robust processes and equipment for excellent yields, and ensure scalable QC processes. Partnering with external networks, we secure competitive manufacturing costs and reliable production. The Opportunity As Head of Process Science - Form/ Filling and Packaging, you will assume global leadership of an interdisciplinary team of process developers and scientists. The focus of your team is on the scientific development and characterization of our manufacturing processes to ensure their robustness, cost efficiency and scalability. In this role, you will actively shape the company's technological future. You will drive the systematic further development of key processes, including gluing, laser welding, ultrasonic welding, hot staking, as well as various assembly and connection technologies. A central part of your responsibility is the systematic establishment and expansion of process development competencies within the team.

Requirements

  • Completed technical or scientific studies, ideally with a doctorate in Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Several years of experience in process development and optimization, preferably in a high-tech or manufacturing environment.
  • Profound knowledge of laser technologies, coating processes, or microstructuring.
  • Confident handling of statistical methods and data-driven process analysis.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to inspire, develop, and empower a team.
  • Several publications in scientific peer-reviewed journals.
  • Analytical strength, a hands-on mentality, and enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • You are fluent in English and possess excellent communication skills.
  • As a born team player, you collaborate effectively with various stakeholders and have a talent for conveying complex topics clearly and understandably.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic and operational leadership of the "Process Science - Microstructuring" team as well as the further development of individual and technical skills.
  • Development and establishment of a structured, scientifically sound approach to process analysis and development.
  • Establish the use of statistical methods for assessing process robustness and capability (e.g., DoE, Statistical Process Controls, Regression Analysis, etc.).
  • Establish the application of Design of Experiments (DoE) or other methods to identify and evaluate critical process parameters (CPPs) to ensure a deep understanding of how they influence product and process performance.
  • You promote close collaboration with Development, Quality, and Production for the industrialization of new processes and technologies.
  • Building an expert network through intensive cooperation with renowned research and development institutions.
  • You develop and establish an innovation-driven, data-based working culture.
  • You create a work environment and team culture that encourages and enables exceptional results.
