About The Position

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Office of Inspector General. This position is responsible for surveying health care centers with Medicare and Medicaid to assure compliance with federal regulations. Compliance with federal regulations allows the facility to bill Medicare and Medicaid for services rendered. Responsibilities include determining if care, treatment, and services are consistent with Federal requirements; communicating non-compliance issues with key personnel; conducting follow-up visits to resolve deficient practices. Requirements

  • Basic medical practitioner knowledge.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and make decisions based on those regulations.
  • Ability to identify problems, develop and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work with a variety of team members to produce a single survey product.
  • Licensed healthcare practitioner (licensure requirements include a related bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Two years of work experience in a healthcare-related field, or other directly related clinical experience.
  • Must have passed the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) for CMS surveyors or be able to pass the examination within one year of hire.

  • Registered Nurse highly desirable.
  • Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
