About The Position

At Lavazza, the HSE&S Manager is responsible for leading and executing the technical and functional requirements related to health, safety, environmental, and security across Lavazza North America, with primary support for the West Chester manufacturing facility and the New York City office, and occasional support for North America Training Centers. This role directs the on-site safety function and is responsible for the oversight and continuous improvement of all company safety standards, environmental policies, processes, documentation, and procedures. The preferred candidate will have experience implementing and upholding the highest HSE&S standards and fostering a strong workplace safety culture, along with demonstrated experience with ISO 45001, ISO 14001, OSHA, DOT, and PA DEP requirements.

Requirements

  • Recommended 4-year degree from an accredited institution with Safety, Science or Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years’ experience as successful HSE&S Manager with successful leading, developing, and implementing HSE&S programs and systems.
  • Experience with HSE Management Systems with compliance to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Experience with performing qualitative internal audits to prescribed standards.
  • Experience developing, promoting, and maintaining a health and incident free workplace.
  • Proficient in MS Office, (Word. Excel, and Powerpoint).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Good Manfacturing Processes (GMP) required.
  • Must be able to climb and access all stairs, ladders, and work platforms with relatively ease and no restrictions.
  • May be required to travel up to 20% to other Lavazza owned properties and attend off-site Health & Safety Conferences or training sessions.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certifications preferred.
  • Experience in the food and beverage industry preferred.
  • Experience with PA DEP Department Protection standards and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, maintain, and continuously improve a proactive health, safety, environmental, and security (HSE&S) culture across Lavazza North America.
  • Ensure compliance with Lavazza Group HSE&S policies and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, DOT, PA DEP, and relevant environmental permitting requirements.
  • Lead and manage HSE&S management systems, including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications, internal and external audits, and corrective and preventative action (CAPA) programs.
  • Partner with site and senior leadership to establish and achieve companywide HSE&S objectives and performance targets.
  • Direct incident, near-miss, and environmental non-compliance investigations; oversee root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions to completion.
  • Manage job safety analyses, ergonomic assessments, hazard analysis rankings (R3), and risk reduction initiatives for production and operational activities.
  • Oversee environmental compliance programs, including air and operating permits, stormwater, wastewater, spill control, hazardous waste management, testing, and regulatory reporting.
  • Support Lavazza Group sustainability initiatives, including the Roadmap to Zero program and environmental performance reporting.
  • Manage site emergency preparedness, emergency response planning, and emergency operations teams.
  • Provide input and counsel to senior leadership on health, safety, environmental, security, and associate well-being matters.
  • Manage and develop two direct reports (HSE Specialist and Environmental & Sustainability Specialist).
  • Oversee site security operations, including contracted security services, and ensure required facility safety and security training is conducted and documented.
  • Collaborate with Occupational Health and Wellness to support injury case management, workers’ compensation claims, and associate medical coordination.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources on onboarding, training, site events, contractor safety, and post-incident actions.
  • Ensure all required HSE&S training programs, including new hire, refresher, role-specific, and Alchemy training, are planned, delivered, tracked, and documented for all associates.
  • Lead safety and environmental reporting, metrics, and presentations for site and leadership forums, including monthly Supply Leadership Team meetings.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and global HSE colleagues to support compliance and achievement of Lavazza Group HSE&S objectives.
