About The Position

As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at Scotty’s Contracting and Stone, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our construction and paving operations. You will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a diverse fleet of heavy machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, and paving equipment. Your expertise will help diagnose mechanical issues, perform routine and emergency repairs, and implement preventative maintenance practices to minimize downtime. Collaborating with a dedicated team, you will contribute to maintaining a safe and productive work environment, ensuring that our equipment meets industry standards and project deadlines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in heavy equipment mechanics is preferred.
  • Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in heavy equipment repair and maintenance, preferably in the construction or paving industry.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • additional technical training or certification in heavy equipment mechanics is preferred.
  • CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Repair: Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including but not limited to excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, graders, and paving machinery.
  • Diagnostic Troubleshooting: Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Component Replacement: Replace worn or damaged parts, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety standards and regulations while performing work to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other mechanics, operators, and supervisors to address equipment issues and improve operational efficiency.
  • Emergency Repairs: Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergencies in the field as needed.
