About The Position

Idaho Power — located in Twin Falls, Idaho — is looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator - Blaster I or II to join our Transmission and Distribution Construction crew. What does a Heavy Equipment Operator - Blaster I or II do for us? They perform assignments operating a variety of heavy construction equipment at various locations system wide. They use drilling equipment and explosives, as well as blast holes for power line poles, towers, and trenches. They perform other construction related groundwork when equipment is not in use. A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE Knowledge of: Functions, operations, and care of common construction equipment Hazards and safety precautions of the specific type of work The safe use and handling of explosives Traffic laws, ordinances, and rules applicable to motor vehicle and equipment operations Preferred: Underground utility installation Skills in: Verbal and written communication Maintaining neat, accurate, and legible records Basic math and use of personal computers Ability to: Work under direct or self-directed supervision Establish effective working relationships Work with different foremen and crews Perform minor mechanical maintenance and repairs to equipment Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks to assist teams Work overtime at the discretion of the supervisor and respond to emergencies outside of normal working hours Attend classes to update knowledge of regulations governing the use of explosives Travel throughout Idaho Power Company's territory for extended periods of time

  • Travel throughout Idaho Power Company's territory for extended periods of time
  • Blaster I Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: 2 years of experience using excavators, skid steers, front end loader, dozers, line equipment (pullers, tensioners), trucks and trailers, and backhoes
  • Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Department of Transportation (DOT)medical card or ability to obtain prior to hire
  • Must have a current DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) prior to hire
  • Must have an attached state-issued Hazardous Materials endorsement or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Current state-issued Tanker (N) endorsement or the ability to obtain within 120 days of hire
  • Valid First Aid/CPR card within 90 days
  • Blaster II Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: 3 years of heavy equipment experience using excavators, skid steers, front end loader, dozers, line equipment (crane, pullers, tensioners), trucks and trailers, and backhoes AND 1 year of experience working with explosives
  • Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • DOT medical card or ability to obtain prior to hire
  • Must have a current DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) prior to hire
  • Must have an attached State-issued Hazardous Materials endorsement or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Current state-issued Tanker (N) endorsement or the ability to obtain within 120 days of hire
  • Valid First Aid/CPR card within 90 days
  • Crane operation card or ability to obtain within 30 days or hire
  • Must pass an Alcohol Tobacco Firearms (ATF) 27 CFR Part 555 background check and be authorized as an Employee Possessor under IPC’s permit to handle explosives, on-the-job training will be an intricate part of the blasting portion of this position
  • Complete DOT PHMSA 49 CFR Part 172 required hazardous materials employee training within 90 days
  • Additional safety related training may be required
  • Must live or relocate within established boundaries of assigned location
