About The Position

The Herons Restaurant Assistant Manager is responsible for upholding and advancing the quality and service standards established by Food & Beverage leadership. This role focuses on supervising the Herons service team with a primary emphasis on exceptional guest satisfaction. The Assistant Manager supports management through staff training, service leadership, and operational oversight, and serves as the acting Restaurant Manager when primary leadership is off property. Additional responsibilities may include assisting the Bar & Lounge or In-Room Dining departments as needed.

Responsibilities

  • In the absence of the Restaurant Manager, organize and lead daily pre-shift service meetings, including communication of notes from the previous service and reservation details for the current shift.
  • Assist in managing lunch and dinner service, ensuring smooth operations and superior guest experiences.
  • Engage with guests at each table to gather feedback and ensure satisfaction, and communicate feedback to culinary leadership as appropriate.
  • Inspect and verify completion of opening and closing side work responsibilities.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate entries in the daily Manager Log and communicate all pertinent information to other hotel outlets.
  • Reflect and guide service staff in alignment with The Umstead Vision and Values while maintaining management standards.
  • Lead consistently by positive example.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Foster a culture of daily passion for excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively regarding information vital to Herons Restaurant and other hotel outlets.
  • Represent Food & Beverage leadership in the restaurant when primary leadership is absent or unavailable.
  • Uphold all hotel safety, security, and health code policies and procedures to ensure the well-being of guests and associates.
  • Continually assist management with inspection of daily set up of the dining room. Hardware’s, Fixtures and Service items being inspected on a daily basis.
  • Assist the Restaurant Manager with inspection of assigned opening side work and closing side at the beginning and end of shifts respectively.
  • Assist the service staff with organizing their discussion agenda to be presented at Herons PM monthly department meeting.
  • Motivate service team in a positive constructive matter to excel.
  • Teach and give proper examples of the Hotel’s Values.
