In addition, the Counselor has the additional responsibilities of:Job ResponsibilitiesFaith Community 1. 1.Articulates and acts in accordance with the Philosophy of Catholic Education, archdiocesan policies related to the religious dimension of the Catholic school, and the school's mission statement. 2. Participates in studies of Church documents related to Catholic education and in reviews of the school's mission statement. 3. Makes decisions congruent with the Philosophy of Catholic Education, archdiocesan policies related to the religious dimension of the Catholic school, and the school's mission statement. 4. Expresses support for religious education and faith formation programs for students and faculty. 5. Expresses a commitment to Catholic education as a ministry of the Church and a personal apostolate. 6. Integrates Church doctrine, including social teaching, Gospel values, and global perspectives into subject area instruction. Acts in accordance with Gospel values. 1. Demonstrates respect for all forms of life. 2. Makes decisions that reflect charity and justice. 3. Seeks reconciliation when dealing with problem situations. 4. Responsibilities

  • Provides a variety of effective guidance services to meet a broad range of student needs
  • Effectively assesses the guidance and counseling needs of individual students and the student body in general.
  • Provides structured classroom and small group sessions on pertinent topics using methods appropriate to the topic.
  • Coordinates the administration of standardized assessments.
  • Provides accurate interpretations of assessment data to students and parents.
  • Engages students with a variety of print and electronic guidance resources.
  • Counsels individual students and groups of students with identified needs and concerns using effective methods and in accordance with ethical standards.
  • Selects interventions that are appropriate for students' needs and circumstances.
  • Involves and consults with other persons as appropriate in the counseling process.
  • Provides appropriate referrals to professionals, agencies, and institutions outside the school when needed or desired.
  • Actively informs students, parents, teachers, and other school personnel about the services available, procedures for accessing them, and procedures for making referrals.
  • Maintains appropriate student records in accordance with school and archdiocesan policies and legal and ethical standards.
  • Assists students with post-secondary applications, transcripts, and scholarships
  • Conducts follow-up studies of graduates.
  • Assists students with their academic, personal, and social development.
  • Assists students with identifying their personal strengths, interests, aptitudes, and attitudes.
  • Assists students with establishing appropriate educational and career goals and planning appropriate steps to achieve them.
  • Assists students with establishing and maintaining healthy relationships.
  • Assists students with identifying and defining problems, considering alternative solutions and their consequences, and selecting and implementing constructive solutions.
  • Assists students with making smooth transitions from one level of education to the next.
  • Assists students with the creation and implementation of schedules to meet graduation requirements and post-secondary goals.
