About The Position

The Catholic High School Math Teacher provides rigorous and engaging instruction in mathematics while integrating Catholic values into the learning environment. This role involves teaching algebra, geometry, calculus, or other math courses, fostering students' critical thinking skills, and promoting ethical responsibility. The teacher serves as a role model of faith, encouraging students to see the beauty and logic of mathematics as part of God's creation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Math Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • State teaching certification in Mathematics for secondary education.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematical concepts and effective teaching strategies.
  • Ability to integrate faith into instruction and classroom culture.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for inspiring students to excel in both mathematics and faith.

Nice To Haves

  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience teaching in a Catholic school or familiarity with Catholic education is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver comprehensive lessons in mathematics, aligning with state and diocesan academic standards.
  • Teach a variety of math subjects, such as Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and/or Calculus.
  • Integrate Catholic teachings and values into classroom discussions and learning experiences.
  • Use diverse instructional strategies, including technology, collaborative learning, and real-world applications, to engage students in mathematical problem-solving.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students at varying skill levels, including those needing remediation or advanced challenges.
  • Assess student learning through tests, quizzes, projects, and other formative and summative assessments.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to enhance students' mathematical understanding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Encourage a growth mindset and perseverance in tackling mathematical challenges.
  • Prepare students for standardized tests, college entrance exams, and higher-level math coursework.
  • Serve as a role model of Catholic values, ethics, and virtues in and out of the classroom.
  • Encourage students to see math as a reflection of divine order and to use their skills for the common good.
  • Participate in school liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and other faith-based activities.
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes both academic excellence and moral development.
  • Maintain a structured, respectful, and Christ-centered classroom environment.
  • Establish and uphold high expectations for student behavior, participation, and academic integrity.
  • Collaborate with fellow faculty members to integrate math across disciplines and support school-wide initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and successes.
  • Stay updated on educational best practices and Catholic teaching methodologies through professional development.
  • Attend faculty meetings, in-service training, and diocesan teacher formation programs.
  • Support extracurricular activities such as math clubs, STEM programs, or tutoring initiatives.
