About The Position

Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson’s Mission: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson offers our young people a safe environment where they can have fun and be themselves around dedicated adult mentors who respect and listen to them. Outcome-based programs empower youth to become lifelong learners. PRIMARY FUNCTION Plan, implement and evaluate all programs and activities for the teen members in the five core areas: The Arts, Education & Career Dev., Character & Leadership Dev., Health & Life Skills, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation, with the concern for providing supervision and control over members, supervising staff and volunteers, prepare and monitor program budgets and disciple members when necessary. Maintain all reporting and attendance of programs and personnel at site, school, and within organization. The Site Director performs administrative duties and ensures that program requirements are met in collaboration with Program Directors.

Requirements

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
  • A four-year degree from an accredited university/college and three years in a supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of youth development and curriculum development strategies to meet the needs of teen members.
  • Highly organized and motivated, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Valid State Class B Driver’s License with passenger endorsement and youth bus certificate (Preferred)
  • Good level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality
  • Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others on how to apply procedures and standards to specific classes
  • Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive data and information
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
  • Ability to deal with the general public
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications and TB clearance
  • Valid State Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Promote and stimulate program participation.
  • Participate in new Club orientation process.
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Promote safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of site at all times.
  • Establish site activities and services that prepare youth for success and create an outcome-driven Club experience that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes.
  • Evaluate opportunities to improve Club program; design and communicate strategies to implement improvements.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by scheduling regular staff meetings and one-on-one staff coaching
  • Provide career development opportunities for staff and volunteers
  • Create a system in which employees can perform at their best by creating clear goals and expectations and conducting annual performance evaluations
  • Analyze and review average daily attendance and frequency of attendance and develop and implement strategies to increase membership and attendance.
  • Communicate, interpret, and enforce policies and procedures established by BGCC
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate all site staff and volunteers, ensuring productive and effective performance.
  • Initiate Boys & Girls Club programs and implement new ones in collaboration with school and community.
  • Plan, schedule, and ensure the implementation of quality programs and activities in core program areas that meet required guidelines.
  • Provide supervision and guidance in all applicable program areas.
  • Oversee and ensure the implementation of quality, small and large group, organized, structured educational, arts & crafts, athletic, enrichment, and social recreation activities for youth in grades 6th – 12th.
  • Create and maintain inventory and ensure the proper storage, maintenance and repairs of all program equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure a healthy, safe environment, with a clean and well-maintained site.
  • Ensure that there is a positive environment for children to learn, interact, and grow.
  • Promote and stimulate program participation; recruit and registers new members and participate in their club orientation process.
  • Maintain close contact with supervisor, school principal, school personnel, parents, and other after school service providers to receive/provide information, to discuss issues/concerns, and to create and strengthen relationships and partnerships.
  • Establish and maintain strict program settings that ensure the health and safety of members.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training, and monitoring of staff and volunteers.
  • Work towards achieving goals set forth by Los Angeles Unified School District and Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson each year.
  • Monitor curriculum development and facilitation to ensure that all services offered through the Club facilitate achievement of BGCC program goals and outcomes.
  • Assume the responsibilities of Youth Development Professionals in their absence.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  • Create, maintain, and submit accurate program schedules, attendance, records, and reports.
  • Ensure payroll for YDP’s the College and Career Coordinator are accurate and approved in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the College and Career Coordinator
  • Support in the High School after school programs provided by the College and Career Coordinator.
  • Maintain members order and discipline by managing members’ behavior; reinforces rules of the club and all the recreational areas.
  • Help develop injury prevention methods, evaluates injuries. Highest priority is the safety of the Club members.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in regular unit and organization staff meetings.
  • Conduct all employee discipline in accordance with The Boys & Girls Clubs of Carson standards including the completion of annual performance evaluations.
  • Approve staff timesheets, expense reports, mileage reports, leave requests, and other employee action forms.
  • May participate in special programs and/or events.
  • May be required to drive Club van.
  • May be required to help in other program areas.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
