About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Highway Engineering Intern to be based in Pittsburgh, PA. This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2026. Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study. As a Highway Engineering Intern, you will gain experience working as part of a team on medium to large scale transportation projects in the Greater Pennsylvania Area. You will build analytic and design skills, create designs, perform calculations, and draft construction plans under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and/or AutoCAD familiarity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate effective time management, task prioritization, and strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the roadway, structures, and traffic engineering groups on highway design projects.
  • The intern will work under the direction of engineers to support design staff on engineering calculations, quantity calculations, cost estimates, construction plans, and supporting materials.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based, collaborative environment.
