About The Position

Transportation Maintenance Coordinator – Highway Maintenance Coordinator Oregon Department of Transportation Delivery & Operations Division – Region 3 Shady Maintenance Crew Roseburg The role: Do you enjoy working in the great outdoors? As a highway maintenance coordinator, you will assist with emergencies and patrol the area looking for potential hazards and damages. You will ensure maintenance activities are planned, prioritized, performed and completed in an efficient and safe manner. You will also work closely with the maintenance manager to make sure crews have what they need to be successful and provide feedback on performance. In addition to working alongside the maintenance crew in the field, you’ll also work in the office to make sure invoices are paid, order supplies and ensure equipment maintenance is performed. Requirements

  • Three years of maintenance or construction experience in roadway, highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge, or landscape.
  • This position requires a maximum 30 minute response time to 3339 Old Hwy 99 S, Roseburg, OR 97471 for emergency call-outs.
  • Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business.
  • You must possess a current, valid commercial driver's license A (CDL-A) with no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions and no manual transmission restrictions to be considered eligible for this position.
  • You must also have or be able to obtain a tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire.
  • A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position .
  • We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearinghouse registration and full query check for our final candidate(s) and annual query for current employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic computer skills and computer applications knowledge.
  • Knowledge of basic contract and procurement procedures.
  • Team supervision and coordination experience.
  • Knowledge of proper traffic control procedures, including highway signing, flagging and coning.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for prioritizing, assigning and reviewing the work of others and working cooperatively with a wide variety of people.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and precautions in transportation maintenance work.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritize, schedule and assign work including scheduling night and weekend shifts.
  • Ensure crews have the resources needed to complete their work including the right quantities of materials and equipment for projects.
  • Review and approve time records, overtime, vacation, sick time and other leave requests.
  • Help with the hiring and selection process and provide recommendations to management.
  • Train employees on operating a variety of heavy and light equipment safely.
  • Review the work of crews and provide input to the maintenance manager on employee performance.
  • Assist the maintenance manager with short and long-range planning and budget preparation.
  • Patrol highways and structures looking for crashes, hazards and damages, and assist with emergencies.
  • Exposure to noise, extreme heights, all weather conditions, heavy equipment, pesticides and hazardous waste materials is expected.
  • Must be able to move around rough terrain, bend and stoop for extended periods and may need to lift up to 60 pounds.
  • May need to work long hours and be available after hours, on weekends and holidays for emergency, on call and weather related purposes.
