About The Position

Highway Maintenance Technician I – District Five / Orlando Operations This position will use a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision. Operates a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites. Requirements

Ability to: Read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms.
Ability to: Maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures.
Ability to: Communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.
Ability to: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to: Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.
Ability to: Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis.
Ability to: Work outdoors in various weather conditions, on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic.
Ability to: Stand for an extended period of time.
Ability to: Perform minor maintenance on vehicles.
Ability to: Operate motor vehicles and other mechanical equipment.
Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies.
The incumbent of this position is required to work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
Obtain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) - Intermediate Level within one year and maintain it.
This position requires a Class E driver’s license.
This position requires a valid Class “E” driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy.

Responsibilities

Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways.
Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments at an intermediate level of complexity with minimal supervision.
Operates a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites.
Performs pre-trip inspection/minor maintenance on vehicles/equipment.
Cleans and washes equipment.
Performs rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assist in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
