By joining our Boone County Sign Crew as a Highway Technician II in Boone County, you'll have the opportunity to perform advanced level work and assists with advanced level work in roadway or roadside maintenance operations. Plans, organizes, assists, and inspects the proper installation of traffic control and safety of job skills and quality assurance and material calculations.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • Must have eight years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification.
  • The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Level 3 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification.
  • Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.
  • Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with complex surveying equipment.
  • Experience in quality assurance for construction and maintenance projects.
  • Experience in advanced equipment operation for road maintenance and installing sign posts, complex sign assemblies.
  • Experience in operating snow and ice plowing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operating dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader to work in the winter months.
  • Operates advanced equipment such as repair equipment, excavate using boom equipment, haul heavy equipment, and spray chemicals using complex spray equipment. Operates all equipment, including boom saws, bulldozers, cranes, excavators, graders, lowboys, milling machines, self-propelled pavers, and semi- trucks and trailers.
  • Coordinate, monitor, and inspect highway contracts, highway projects, and equipment rental usage contractors. Learns to review construction and maintenance documentation for technical accuracy, as well as for compliance with established procedures, standard specifications, plans and contract documents.
  • Coordinates crew assignments to include cutting brush, flagging traffic, picking up debris, installing signs, etc. Operates complex surveying equipment. Records field data and makes calculations. Oversees basic quality assurance materials sampling and testing such as concrete slump and temperature, and asphalt content and density. Completes materials testing report forms. Serves as a quality assurance inspector for multiple activities. Oversees work of others who inspect and perform single activities.
