About The Position

Requirements

  • Histology Technologist (HTL) preferred
  • Histology Laboratory Technician (HT) preferred
  • Issued by (Governing Body)
  • ASCP – American Society for Clinical Pathology
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, allied health science or related discipline.
  • Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from the IERF (International Education Research Foundation).
  • United States educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript
  • We accept new graduates from histology programs
  • Certification preferred within 1 year of hire date.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a hospital or reference laboratory a plus

Responsibilities

  • Embedding tissue with correct orientation according to established protocol
  • Cutting tissue blocks with high quality microtomy
  • Grossing/dissecting patient samples with care according to the established protocol
  • Special Stains must be done manually with proper quality control performed
  • Performs IHC staining with proper quality control.
  • Basic troubleshooting of histology procedures
  • Maintenance logs are filled out daily to ensure machines are working at optimal function and at the proper laboratory conditions
  • Effectively reports and investigates patient safety incidents, medical errors and potential risks in the facility
  • Assists with identification and implementation of corrective action where appropriate
  • Responsible for investigating issues such as turn-around-times with the lab, problems receiving supplies, patient issues and concerns, and will be responsible for forwarding these issues to the correct leadership
