At BWFH, our Histology and Immunohistochemistry (IHC) laboratories operate as a combined service, allowing technologists to develop expertise across both histology processing and IHC staining workflows through cross-training. Job Summary Summary Responsible for preparing tissue specimens by processing, performing microtomy, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required
  • Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No
  • Clinical or histology experience 0-1 year required
  • Must possess fundamental knowledge of basic histotechnique to include fixation, decalcification, processing, embedding, and routine staining.
  • Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills.

  • Histotechnician [HT(ASCP)] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred
  • Histotechnologist [HTL(ASCP)] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Processes, embeds, and sections tissue for slides.
  • Embeds control tissue and cuts control slides to maintain an adequate control library.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and quality control procedures, including oiling and cleaning microtomes, cleaning processors, and changing staining solutions.
  • Ensures appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to maintain employee safety at all times.
  • Maintains case identification and ensures appropriate tracking throughout the entire process to ensure patient safety.
  • Observes hospital and laboratory policies and safety practices and maintains a safe, clean, and prepared work area.
