WI-SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - Madison Worker Type: Regular Job Highlights: This is a full-time day shift Histotechnician position working 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for a total of 40 hours. No weekends! This role can be filled as certified or non-certified but candidates with cutting, trimming, necropsy, and Mohs experience are highly preferred. Job Summary: Supervises assignments within the laboratory and acts as a resource to the laboratory, under general supervisor. Job Responsibilities and Requirements: Job Description PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Collects, labels, processes and preserves tissue specimens according to established laboratory procedures. Prepares sections of tissue for immediate examination, using frozen section technique to freeze, cut, mount and stain specimens. Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by the pathologist. May perform embedding, cutting, and staining of tissues and pathology specimens received, with assistance. May perform basic histology special stains using manual or automated methods as appropriate, with assistance. May maintain equipment in histology as required, with assistance. Cleans and maintains adequate laboratory supplies and work areas. Performs general histological duties as well as cytology specimen prep work. Analyzes and records data. Assists in the proficiency testing program in the lab. Maintains competencies and continuing education to keep informed of new developments in field. Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience
  • No experience required
