About The Position

Under general supervision, the Histotechnologist performs all aspects of histologic slide preparations for diagnosis including routine and special tests, maintenance and quality control, and computer functions. Education: •Associate’s degree in science with at least two (2) years of full-time experience in histopathology within the last five (5) years OR •Successful completion of an accredited histotechnology program, registry eligible OR •Bachelor’s degree with one (1) year of full time experience in histopathology within the last five (5) years. Licensure: Certification as a registered HT or HTL by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) preferred. Experience: Dependent upon level of education acquired Skills: • Knowledge of histologic theory, practices, and standards • Skills in cellular evaluation and interpretation • Skill in oral, written and interpersonal communication • Skill in basic computers • Skill in basic mathematics, data analysis and problem solving • Ability to operate and maintain basic laboratory equipment. • Ability to prioritize work, organize and transfer data accurately. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Performs embedding with accuracy and efficiency. Tissue is identified and oriented according to procedure, in a timely manner. Blocks are arranged according to block log, with corrections documented. Area and equipment are well-maintained. • Performs microtomy with efficiency and accuracy. Produces high quality 3-micron sections, in a timely manner. Retains 50% of tissue in block after microtomy. Troubleshoots difficult cases. • Performs preventive and routine maintenance and quality control on all equipment, with documentation. Investigates, resolves and follows up on problems. • Performs special histochemical and/or immunohistochemical staining and other special procedures. Performs stains in an efficient organized manner and demonstrates desired staining reaction. Evaluates results. Submits slides in a timely manner. Investigates, resolves and follows up on problems. • Performs routine staining, coverslipping, labeling and distribution of slides. Labels, counts and divides slides accurately and efficiently per slide distribution procedure. Distributes slides in a timely manner. Reviews staining and microtomy quality with correction and documentation. • Participates in QA/QC programs, test selection and utilization, and research procedures, new equipment, systems and methodologies. • Participates in the Laboratory’s continuing education program and meets requirements as described in the Laboratory Continuing Education Policy. Shares knowledge gained from seminars, workshops, etc. through formal and informal presentations. • Participates in projects, work groups, teams, task forces or committees; completes responsibilities and communicates to staff. Pay Range $27.32 - $44.80 Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
