About The Position

Hope House, a Preble Street low-barrier shelter located in Bangor, Maine, provides shelter and intensive services to individuals experiencing homelessness in a 24-hour trauma-informed environment grounded in social work best practices. The Hope House Housing Navigator provides comprehensive case management and housing-related services while ensuring the safety of clients and program spaces; participates in program coverage and outreach activities; ensures the collection, documentation and reporting of information and data as required; and works as a member of the Hope House team to support and achieve outcomes aligned with program goals and the agency mission Population Served: Individuals who are experiencing homelessness. Schedule available: Tuesday-Saturday, 8:00am- 4:30pm

Requirements

  • Experience in direct service provision to people experiencing homelessness, or a comparable combination of education and relevant experience
  • Understanding of the Preble Street mission, harm reduction, and social and economic justice including the role of policy advocacy throughout all programs and positions
  • Understanding and positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness and/or living in poverty.
  • Understanding of low-barrier services and related challenges.
  • Understanding of mental illness, substance use, and co-occurring disorders
  • Ability to establish and maintain boundaries within diverse populations.
  • Effective crisis intervention skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Driver’s License is preferred.
