Hot Heading/ Forging Operator - 1st shift

About The Position

Under the guidance of the lead man or supervisor, operates the various hot heading machines in use by the Company to perform complex operations such as forming, shaping, stamping, etc. on various sizes of head configurations etc. to required close tolerances per blueprint or other specifications. Performs required quality workmanship through the use of precision measuring instruments and special test equipment. Follows scheduled workflow assignments in order to meet customer demands and production control requirements. Works towards meeting established standards and performance requirements. Key Position Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Forge metal parts to print specifications and established performance standards. Operates various types of Hot Heading machines as required for the completion of the various operations necessary on the work pieces being formed. Maintains visual check of work in progress to assure proper functioning of equipment. Performs quality workmanship through the use of precision measuring instruments. Refers to drawings, engineering prints and written instructions to machine products to customer / engineering specifications. Follows scheduled workflow according to assigned priorities and communicates deviations to department lead. Ensures that all materials are available prior to initiating production and communicates shortages to department lead. Conforms to written instructions and procedures to achieve increased performance in production and quality workmanship. Monitors equipment maintenance and adheres to safety regulations. Performs other duties as assigned or necessitated by change or condition. Must be willing to work overtime as needed. Participates in LEAN, 6S and Root Cause analysis activities as required. Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building, and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of the production operations in a cell. Responsible for accuracy of parts formed. Visually and/or with measuring instruments checks work performed for proper results. Good housekeeping, knowledge of good machine safety is necessary as well as adherence to Company Safety Rules. Requires initiative in solving problems associated with the set-up and operation of various types of Hot Header machines and ingenuity in adapting tooling and shop aids to complete forming operations. Makes suggestions for improving the efficiency of workflow or equipment operation. Takes on or reports for additional work as current tasks are completed. Performs other work-related tasks as deemed necessary by Company needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, equivalent or GED
  • Ability to visually inspect for cracks or other defects.
  • Ability to suggest tooling improvements to Engineering for process/method improvements.
  • Ability to fluently read and follow instructions in English.
  • Ability to interpret prints and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to perform machining on a variety of high strength materials (Inconel, A286, Stainless, 300M, 15-5, etc).
  • Knowledge of tooling to achieve consistent quality results.
  • Knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
  • Must read, understand, refer to and interpret Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) dimensioning and third view projection blueprints.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years of machine shop experience.
  • Experience in an Aerospace manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Bilingual - English and Spanish
