About The Position

Hope Haven of East Texas is a Christian, faith-based non-profit providing a direct solution to the foster care crisis in East Texas. We demonstrate Christ’s love to children and teens in the foster care system by providing home, healing, and hope because every child deserves to be safe and equipped for the future. HOUSE MANAGER / LIFE SKILLS MENTOR REPORTS TO: Program Director – Transitional Living PRIMARY PURPOSE The House Manager/Life Skills Mentor provides weekly supervision, support, and life-skills mentoring to young adults in Hope Haven’s Supervised Independent Living (SIL) program, helping them prepare for independent adulthood. This role also mentors teen girls at Gateway of Hope in areas of personal responsibility, maturity, life skills, and readiness for transition into young adulthood.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Understanding of DFPS rules for Transitional Living and Extended Foster Care (or ability to learn).
  • Ability to build rapport and mentor youth in a professional manner.
  • Able to recognize emotional/behavioral needs and respond appropriately.
  • Able to work independently and handle stressful situations or crises.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and boundaries.
  • Supports and works within Hope Haven’s Christian mission.
  • Ability to obtain CPR/First Aid and other required certifications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call support if needed.
  • Able to assist in crisis situations and physical interventions if required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Social Services, Psychology, Sociology, Education, or related field).
  • Experience with youth or young adults in foster care, extended care, or supervised/independent living preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor weekly operations of the SIL program and ensure a safe, structured environment.
  • Provide mentoring and practical guidance in independent living skills (budgeting, cooking, housekeeping, job readiness, transportation, etc.).
  • Support transition planning and goal setting for young adults preparing for independence.
  • Help maintain required documentation, reports, and records.
  • Participate in campus safety and facility checks as needed.
  • Assist with food, supplies, and resident budgeting needs.
  • Provide age-appropriate mentoring for girls at Gateway of Hope related to life skills and preparation for adulthood.
  • Attend meetings, training, and participate in crisis response or on-call duties when needed.
  • Teach and model healthy routines and daily living skills.
  • Participate in resident intake and transition plans.
  • Build trust and provide ongoing personal support and encouragement.
  • Communicate with staff regarding resident progress, concerns, and needs.
  • Support safe decision-making, healthy boundaries, and personal development.
