About The Position

The Environmental Services Supervisor assists the Environmental Services Manager in planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising all aspects of housekeeping operations within the zoo, at remote locations, and housekeeping services requested by the NC Zoo, NC Zoo Society and special event coordinators. This position is responsible for operations (equipment and staffing), meeting and adhering to safety standards, equipment maintenance standards, and that work is done on schedule as a service to Guests and staff and maintains positive Guest relations and service recovery. This position is required to provide timely, accurate, friendly, efficient, and effective housekeeping services to the Zoo’s 1,000,000+ Guests per year as well as guests invited to special events and/or affairs at the Zoo.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience in the area assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be able to work most holidays and a flexible schedule as needed
  • Must have good physical agility, strength, vision & hearing, and the ability to perform strenuous physical work in extremes of weather and challenging physical environments, e.g. outdoor animal enclosures. Specifically, walking, standing, and seeing animals & exhibits for observation and safety as well as hearing animal sounds, radio communication and emergency situations.
  • Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of housekeeping related work in a large complex facility such as museum, zoo, aquarium, theme park or closely related facility.
  • One year of team leader or supervisory experience.
  • Basic keyboarding and computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop schedules and assign duties for both temporary and permanent employees to ensure that housekeeping operations can be performed effectively in the cleaning of all administrative buildings and in park areas as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of all supplies and equipment for housekeeping.
  • Reviews employment applications and assists with identifying best applicants for consideration and participates in the interview process as well as completes work plans and performance reviews of staff members supervised by this position.
  • Resolves minor problems and informal complaints.
  • Training of employees both temporary and permanent employees on vehicles, equipment, safety protocols, park operations, and Guest relations.
  • Have verbal and nonverbal interaction with both external Guests and internal customers/staff
  • Functions as a housekeeper, performing housekeeping tasks to reduce temporary staffing needs, cover unexpected absences of scheduled employees, and/or provide support for special events.
