The Housing and Student Support Manager advances student persistence, stability, and wellness by overseeing housing operations, emergency housing case management, residential engagement, and key student benefit programs. Serving as the designated NLU HOUSE Liaison, this role manages emergency housing placements and coordinates care for students experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in partnership with campus and external housing providers. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Housing and Residence Life, the Manager provides daily operational oversight of on-campus housing, including occupancy management, housing systems administration, billing coordination, and alignment with the Master Lease partnership. The role also serves as the primary institutional contact for the Student Health Insurance Program and the CTA U-Pass Program, ensuring compliant administration, accurate data management, and clear communication regarding student enrollment and access. Working collaboratively across Student Affairs, the Manager positions housing as a core retention and student success strategy. The role strengthens residential engagement and community standards while implementing efficient, assessment-informed, and compliant processes. Balancing direct student support with operational coordination, crisis response, and conduct administration, the Manager contributes to a safe, inclusive, and developmentally grounded residential experience.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in social work, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
• 1-2 years' experience in housing, residence life, student support services, or a related higher education setting.
• 1-2 years' experience managing housing operations, including occupancy tracking, assignments, billing coordination, and housing systems administration.
• Experience maintaining case documentation and coordinating care across internal and external partners.
• Experience administering student programs requiring compliance oversight (e.g., insurance, transportation programs, or benefits enrollment).
• Experience interpreting and applying policies related to housing, student conduct, and student privacy (FERPA).
• Proficiency with housing management systems, student information systems, and Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
• Ability to document activities, analyze data, and contribute to preparing detailed grant compliance or performance reports.
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary point of contact for students seeking housing support, including emergency housing, temporary placements, affinity-based assignments, and transition planning.
• Serve as the designated NLU HOUSE Liaison, managing emergency housing assignments and providing case coordination for students experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity at the University Center and through the DAX Housing partnership. This includes meeting with students, coordinating placements, monitoring progress, collaborating with campus partners, and ensuring continuity of care in line with the state of Illinois and IBHE standards and requirements.
• Coordinate daily housing operations, including room assignments, occupancy monitoring, roster management, billing coordination, housing contract administration, and termination or appeal processes under supervisory guidance.
• Manage housing systems, including eRezLife and Maxient, to ensure accurate records, enrollment tracking, and proactive vacancy planning.
• Collaborate with department leadership to implement an assessment informed, developmentally grounded residential curriculum aligned with student success and retention goals.
• Support Resident Assistants and student leaders through training, outreach, programming oversight, and community development initiatives.
• Advise and support the development and operation of the Residence Hall Association to promote student leadership and engagement.
• Facilitate themed communities, living learning initiatives, and faculty engagement opportunities within the residence halls.
• Manage assigned programming budgets and evaluate residential initiatives using learning outcomes and assessment data.
• Serve as a visible and accessible professional resource within the residential community.
• Serve as a student conduct officer for minor and mid-level cases with housing students under supervisory guidance and maintain accurate conduct documentation with the UC Residence Life team.
• Respond to student concerns, crises, and emergencies related to housing and residential life, including after-hours calls for hospital transport notifications from the UC.
• Collaborate with Campus Safety, University Center Security, and Student Affairs leadership to promote a safe residential environment.
• Lead residential crisis response efforts in the absence of the Director of Housing and Residence Life, as delegated.
• Support crisis coordination and continuity of care for residential students in collaboration with appropriate campus partners and communicate incidents, concerns, and operational updates to Student Affairs leadership.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for the Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) and the CTA U Pass Program, including enrollment, waiver processing, eligibility verification, and issue resolution.
• Provide guidance to students regarding resources that support student access, persistence, and campus engagement.
• Coordinate all benefit-related workflows for the Student Health Insurance Program and the CTA U Pass Program, including auto enrollment, opt-in and opt-out processes, lost card replacement, vendor portal administration, and compliance documentation.
• Maintain data integrity across systems supporting the Student Health Insurance Program and the CTA U Pass Program, collaborating with external vendors, brokers, and campus partners to ensure accurate reporting and communication.
• Update institutional websites and student-facing platforms to ensure timely, accurate communication about deadlines, enrollment requirements, and program expectations for both the Student Health Insurance Program and the CTA U Pass Program.
• Locate opportunities to expand additional student service options and benefit options to more student populations, including exploring housing and transportation resources for online students, Wheeling and Lisle students, and students at the Tampa campus.
• Partner with internal departments and external vendors to ensure compliant, efficient housing and benefits operations.
• Review and update housing contracts, operational procedures, communication templates, and policy documentation annually to ensure clarity, efficiency, and risk mitigation.
• Prepare occupancy, revenue, and assessment reports to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
• Serve as liaison to off-site housing partners and support exploration of housing expansion opportunities across campuses.
• Assist with identifying transportation resources and off-campus housing partnerships near each campus location.
• Promote on-campus housing as a student success and retention strategy in collaboration with Enrollment Services and Student Affairs partners.
• Serve as the institutional liaison for coordination with the University Center and support continued process improvements and housing initiatives that expand access and education about housing, renting, and financial resources.
• Participate in departmental assessment initiatives, risk management planning, policy review, and strategic growth projects.
• Other duties as assigned.
