About The Position

Work as a member of the Adult Education & Literacy (AEL) team. Facilitate assessments and teach High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation courses in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Advocate for students, demonstrating sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds of AEL students, including those with physical and learning disabilities. Class schedules vary by community. The average part-time instructor works 6-12 hours per week (including preparation time). START DATE: ASAP SALARY: $22.30 per hour, not to exceed 29 hours per week. This position is not eligible for benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent computer skills and the ability to work with instructional technology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, organized, dependable, and excellent communication skills.
  • Applicants for this position must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. NIACC is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and follow AEL program requirements, goals, and methods.
  • Complete required professional development and training requirements as assigned.
  • Provide a positive student-centered environment committed to HSE student success that includes the following: > Create enthusiasm for learning and the subject > Encourage student participation and responsibility for learning experiences > Foster student pride in self-accomplishment and self-worth > Collaborate with students to determine and plan for their learning goals > Give timely and constructive feedback
  • Utilize the provided curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Deliver engaging instruction through diverse formats, incorporating technology as needed.
  • Conduct orientation each session for new students.
  • Assess students, document attendance and progress according to AEL requirements.
  • Assist students with goal-setting, problem-solving, and career exploration.
  • Participate in AEL trainings and staff meetings.
  • Refer students to college and community resources.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff and collaborating programs.
  • Attend and assist with the Education to Employment graduation.
  • Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Maintain strong organizational skills, demonstrate reliability, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Fulfill other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
  • Perform in a manner which strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
