About The Position

As a vital member of the Human Resources team, the Human Resources Support Specialist (HRSS) serves as an essential support pillar for the Dallas Zoo’s mission of Engaging People & Saving Wildlife. Reporting directly to the Director of People & Culture, this role will provide critical support to the Human Resources team to ensure a seamless and inclusive experience for our diverse and growing workforce. As the first point of contact for the department, the HRSS will skillfully triage inquiries and route them to the appropriate HR team member to ensure timely and professional resolution. By facilitating a wide range of essential HR services—from onboarding support to employee engagement—the HRSS will act as a frontline ambassador for our internal "Best Day Ever" culture, providing the dedicated support our staff needs to focus on the animals and guests we serve.

Requirements

  • Up to one year of HR administrative experience preferred. Internship experience will also be considered.
  • One year payroll (HRIS) experience preferred.
  • While a post-secondary degree or professional HR certification is preferred, we value commitment to continuous learning and will consider candidates with a strong background in administrative support or specialized HR training.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Utmost respect for confidentiality and ability to exercise good judgment when handling sensitive information.
  • Excellent attention to detail with demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness of work.
  • Ability to be organized and multi-task within timelines.
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing, and edit work for spelling and grammar, and present numerical data effectively.
  • Combines a strong work ethic with a service-oriented approach to support a diverse employee population and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing Human Resources team.
  • Must be comfortable utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s license to operate zoo vehicles and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all non-exempt employees have entered their time and it has been approved by their time clock supervisor for bi-weekly payroll processing in ExponentHR. Maintain accurate support documentation for all transactions.
  • Coordinate pre-screening logistics for new hires and verify the completion of all background and medical clearances to maintain full compliance throughout the hiring process.
  • Enter all new hires in ExponentHR and ensure compliance with all documents including I-9 verification, E-Verify processing, and mandatory employment documentation.
  • Assist with Annual TB testing follow-up and Chest X-Ray scheduling.
  • Support the HR team by coordinating the logistics and material preparation for onboarding sessions, ensuring all resources are curated and ready for a high-impact new hire experience.
  • Process employee data and other changes in internal HR platforms within appropriate timeframes; maintaining accurate employee records.
  • Create and maintain all HR files keeping all files up to date and organized.
  • Serve as triage and assist with providing employee customer service: researching, resolving issues and responding to inquiries in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Field employment inquiries regarding the application and hiring process.
  • Assist with departmental projects and administrative duties as assigned.
