Job Summary: Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Operations, this position performs maintenance and repair services on building utility systems, mechanical and HVAC equipment, plumbing, electrical components, and other building systems across campus. The position will assist with coordinating HVAC preventative maintenance contractor activities and supporting the work of other maintenance staff as assigned. This role is part of a four-year apprenticeship program that provides hands-on training and technical development in facilities maintenance and building systems. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the position progresses to a Journeyman Maintenance Mechanic. The role supports the mission of Regis University by helping to ensure a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills and excels at working collaboratively.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License and a driving record that meets university insurer guidelines.
  • (2) years' experience in building, grounds, or related maintenance/ construction trades.
  • (1) year experience working directly with customers, providing service and information on maintenance problems
  • Ability to interpret written and verbal information and clearly convey technical information
  • Ability to read and interpret HVAC equipment manuals and technical instructions
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to work safely at heights
  • Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs. and push/pull 75 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, twist, and climb.
  • Full range of body movement is essential.
  • Ability to travel easily between buildings/campuses

Nice To Haves

  • Classes or vocational training in building/ HVAC trades or apprentice training program in the utilities area.
  • Experience in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or pipefitting trades or maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Facilities Maintenance & Work Order Response Receive, interpret, and complete work orders and maintenance requests as directed by supervisors or work leaders.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on campus building systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
  • Troubleshoot issues and complete corrective and prescriptive maintenance on building utilities and mechanical systems.
  • Assigns maintenance duties to contractors and monitors progress to assure work completion.
  • Apprenticeship Training and Skill Development Participate in on-the-job training and technical coursework to build knowledge of building systems and facilities maintenance.
  • Progress from entry-level technical skills toward journeyman-level proficiency as part of the apprenticeship program.
  • Mechanical and HVAC Systems Inspect, maintain, and repair mechanical and HVAC equipment including furnaces, fan coil units, air handling units, rooftop units, evaporative coolers, heat radiators, exhaust fans, pumps, motors, and related system components.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot pneumatic, manual, and DDC control valves and other equipment used in conjunction with HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Preventative Maintenance Tasks Perform routine equipment servicing including filter replacement, belt adjustments and replacements, bearing and motor maintenance, lubrication of moving parts, coil cleaning, pump alignment, and air compressor maintenance.
  • Inspect system performance by checking amperage, voltage, electrical connections, belt sheaves, drain lines, diffusers, and supply ducts.
  • Plumbing and Electrical Systems Maintain and repair plumbing systems including faucets, sinks, garbage disposals, toilets, and building water, sewer, storm, and drain lines.
  • Inspect and maintain electrical components related to mechanical systems, including relays, switches, motors, and other supporting equipment.
