About The Position

The HVAC Startup Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems are properly commissioned and fully operational upon installation. This position involves performing detailed system startups, testing, and adjustments to optimize performance and efficiency according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards. The technician will collaborate closely with installation teams, project managers, and clients to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during the startup phase. By meticulously verifying system functionality, the technician helps guarantee customer satisfaction and system reliability. Ultimately, this role is essential in delivering high-quality HVAC solutions that meet safety, comfort, and energy efficiency requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited HVAC technical training program or apprenticeship.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in HVAC system installation, startup, or maintenance.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC system components, controls, and electrical wiring.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites within the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • EPA Section 608 Certification for handling refrigerants.
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and HVAC control software.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national HVAC codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical schematics.
  • Additional certifications such as NATE (North American Technician Excellence) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough startup procedures for newly installed HVAC systems, including testing electrical components, refrigerant levels, airflow, and control systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to ensure systems operate within design parameters.
  • Collaborate with installation teams to verify proper installation and adherence to project specifications.
  • Document startup activities, test results, and any corrective actions taken, providing detailed reports to project managers and clients.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, codes, and manufacturer guidelines during startup and testing processes.
  • Provide technical support and training to clients and maintenance personnel on system operation and maintenance best practices.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and calibration devices to ensure accuracy and reliability during startup procedures.
