About The Position

The Hydronic Startup Technician is responsible for the startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting of hydronic heating and cooling systems, including boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, and controls. This role ensures systems meet design specifications, operate efficiently, and that issues or deviations are clearly communicated through reports and direct communication.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree preferred.
  • Steam system experience preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands on experience with hydronic equipment, including pump rebuilding, laser alignment, and boiler/water heater startups and repair.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in reading, interpreting, and preparing technical documents, diagrams, and reports.
  • Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and presentation skills.
  • Well-organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently while managing priorities.
  • High ethical standards with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity, control systems, and general mechanical systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to maintain required product and safety certifications.
  • Follow all company safety policies and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Adhere to lockout/tagout procedures and hazardous materials handling protocols.
  • Conduct safety inspections and participate in required safety training.
  • Report incidents promptly and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Responsibilities

  • Factory authorized startup of hydronic systems and individual components, including boilers, VFDs, pumps, and controls.
  • Verify system performance and make necessary adjustments to achieve design intent.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues.
  • Collaborate with project teams and contractors to address installation or performance concerns.
  • Document procedures, test results, and system configurations; submit accurate and timely reports.
  • Train clients and end-users on proper system operation and basic maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, applicable codes, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, vehicle, and inventory in good working condition.
  • Prepare for service calls with required tools, materials, and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, internal teams, and vendors.
  • Build and maintain positive professional relationships.
  • Travel within assigned territory; occasional overnight stays required.
