Beyond the oven, Flowers Foods fosters a culture that values and reflects Honesty & Integrity, Respect & Inclusion, Sustainability, Passion, and Humility. With a commitment to innovation and a recipe for success, Flowers Foods is more than a bakery – it's a delightful journey into the heart of flavor and community.   The I4.0 Engineer is responsible for leading the implementation, optimization, and sustainment of Industry 4.0 technologies and smart manufacturing initiatives across Flowers Foods' manufacturing and distribution network.  They will also ensure the sustainable integrity and stability of the I4.0 infrastructure and proactively recommend best practices within the Industry 4.0 arena. This role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, and IT to drive digital transformation, automation, data integration, and advanced analytics solutions that improve operational efficiency, reliability, safety, quality, and cost performance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with Control and Automation, SCADA and Historian systems.
  • Good knowledge of instrumentation and control, configurations, fault finding and installation standards.
  • Technical knowledge of OPC, Fieldbus technology, and data communication systems.
  • Expert knowledge and sound experience in PLCs (Siemens, Rockwell or OPTO 22), Inductive Automation Ignition and Canary Labs Historian.
  • Knowledge and experience with Cloud Technology, Python, MQTT, SQL, NoSQL, IIOT, .NET, JAVA, and BI.
  • Familiarity with systems technology, including hardware and networking equipment.
  • Good understanding of MES systems and related integration to ERP.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles.
  • Ability to install, configure and setup of field instrumentation, Field Networks, PLCs, HMIs and SCADA/MES technologies.
  • Understanding of Control System Architecture (network architecture, Server Architecture, PLCs and workstations).
  • In depth knowledge of control and automation standards and ability to interpret and implement best practices.
  • In depth knowledge of sound development and project management practices.
  • Ability to understand, apply and optimize process control loops.
  • In depth knowledge of developing and building and maintaining of batching systems.
  • Good knowledge on motion control and advanced control systems.
  • Excellent understanding of MES integration with the ability to develop and support all relevant MES integration requirements.
  • Understanding of correct procedures and regulations surrounding systems governance (change control, disaster recovery, back up procedures, documentation standards, installation standards, safety standards, HAZOPS).
  • In-depth knowledge of Bakery production process and associated equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or Computer Engineering or equivalent relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Manage, design and implement the installations of new Industry 4.0 systems within Flowers Foods according to company standards by the use of sound project management principles.
  • Support Senior Process Control Technician in ensuring the integrity of Industry 4.0 systems at all times
  • Support and assist with the roll-out of divisional projects
  • Coach, guide and assist with training of all production employees.
  • Assist with ensuring that the system architecture environment remains aligned with the regional manufacturing systems standards and Flowers Foods standards.
  • Conduct in-depth risk analysis to assist with optimization of Industry 4.0 and improving production output.
  • Support business with resolving production issues by providing critical Industry 4.0 systems knowledge and assistance where required.
  • Manage and develop reliable integration of process signals to the MES systems.
  • Ensure effective change control management, testing and implementation (RC’s) are followed.
  • Leveraging available systems and technologies to improve Industry 4.0 system effectiveness.
  • Manage backups of critical Industry 4.0 systems and ensure disaster recovery processes are sound and checked.
  • Assist with developing Artisans, Technicians and Senior Process Control Technicians by providing technical leadership and effective coaching in all aspects of Industry 4.0 systems.
