About The Position

Under general direction, this employee performs paraprofessional work involving gathering information for the determination or redetermination of the eligibility of applicants requesting financial, medical, or food assistance through the Department of Social Services. This worker is primarily responsible for greeting customers, answering the phone, processing mail, copying, faxing, directing incoming calls and providing assistance to customers and staff. Essential functions include interviewing, gathering information, taking and reviewing applications and re-certifications for Food and Nutrition, Medicaid, Work First Family Assistance, Childcare, Crisis and Energy programs; reporting and documenting as changes occur in the household or income; entering and maintaining case data in the NC FAST software system; processing incoming agency mail; and maintaining records, files and confidentiality. Employee must have good communication, interpersonal and computer skills. Work is evaluated through case review, observation, customer feedback and periodic conferences.

Requirements

  • Requires graduation from an accredited college with an associate’s degree in business administration, accounting, human services, social sciences, secretarial science or a related field; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional, administrative support, or other public contact work that involves negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling data, and/or analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, administrative support, or other public contact work that involves negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling data, and/or analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program (Work First Family Assistance, Food and Nutrition, or Medicaid). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid Driver's License, pre-employment drug screen and background check required.
