About The Position

The Indoor Horticulture Technician III is a skilled horticultural professional that cares for and maintains all indoor plants throughout Clayton Headquarters, including several irrigated living plant walls. This role ensures that our plants stay healthy, vibrant, and visually appealing for guests and team members. The ideal candidate has 2–4 years of hands-on horticultural experience and can work independently to handle daily plant care, troubleshoot issues, and design seasonal displays. This person will also help with sourcing plants, managing inventory, supporting special events with plant décor, and collaborating with our campus operations teams to enhance our overall indoor environment. Attention to detail and a passion for high-quality plant care are essential.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of tropical plant species, indoor horticulture, plant physiology, and overall plant health needs.
  • Knowledge of pests, diseases, and integrated pest management (IPM), including diagnosing and addressing common indoor plant issues.
  • Familiarity with irrigation and living wall systems, as well as soil/substrates, plant nutrition, fertilization, and environmental controls (light, humidity, temperature).
  • Skilled in routine plant care practices, including pruning, watering, fertilizing, and propagation.
  • Ability to design and maintain attractive plant displays, seasonal décor, and specialty installations.
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining care schedules, logs, inventory, and sourcing plants/materials.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time efficiently across multiple buildings, and make proactive decisions.
  • High attention to detail to maintain consistent, high-quality plant health and campus aesthetics.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with operations, horticulture, and events teams.
  • Creative mindset for recommending new plant concepts and enhancing interior plant environments.
  • Ability to safely lift, move, and stage plants, pots, and materials as needed.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2-4 years of experience within horticultural field

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, water, prune, and fertilize all tropical indoor plants across the campus.
  • Monitor plant health daily for pests, disease, moisture issues, and nutrient needs.
  • Maintain proper soil, substrate, and container conditions for long-term plant health.
  • Ensure lighting, humidity, and temperature conditions are appropriate for each species.
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of indoor plant areas, pots, and staging areas.
  • Create plant care logs and schedules for consistent, dependable maintenance.
  • Propagate plants as needed to sustain cost-effective in-house replacements.
  • Select and source high-quality tropical plants, flowers, and materials from nurseries and vendors.
  • Track inventory of plants, materials, and supplies for replacements and upcoming displays.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Operations, Garden/Grounds Manager, and horticulture/turf teams for coordinated campus aesthetics.
  • Build training programs/educational formats for Team Members on basic indoor plant care practices.
  • Manage and care for all living plant walls: irrigation system checks, trimming, panel rotation, and health assessments.
  • Provide recommendations for new plant types, wall sections, or display concepts that elevate guest and team-member experience.
  • Design, install, and refresh seasonal floral and foliage displays throughout lobbies, meeting areas, and event spaces.
  • Coordinate quarterly and holiday-specific plant themes (spring blooms, fall harvest, Christmas displays, etc.).
  • Support special events with temporary plant installations and floral décor.
