About The Position

The Industrial Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all plant centralized utility systems, including anhydrous ammonia, high-pressure/low-pressure boilers, compressed air, heat trace, wastewater, fire, ammonia detection, PSM (Process Safety Management), electrical, air handling, and dehumidification systems. The Industrial Refrigeration Technician must have multi-craft skills (mechanical/control/electric) and be able to troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of equipment safely and efficiently. The Industrial Refrigeration Technician is expected to complete preventative maintenance/planned work on equipment and identify/implement continuous improvement opportunities. Shift: Rotating/flexible. Primarily days (6 am-230pm) and afternoons (2 pm-1030pm) alternating weekly for 9 weeks. Midnights (straight shift 10 pm-0630am) for 9-weeks once or twice a year. (The associate would stay on midnights for the whole 9-week rotation. The first year will be about 3 months on days, then they will follow other teams, rotating with the team. At the one-year mark, they will be able to run a weekend shift by themselves.)

Requirements

  • A high school or trade school diploma or equivalent with coursework in math, science and mechanical and electrical drawing, and equipment schematics reading and interpretation.
  • Must have or be willing to get a City of Chicago Stationary Engineers License.
  • Must have or be willing to get RETA (CIRO/CAIRO) certifications.
  • Must be willing to get all other licenses and certifications as required. Some travel is necessary.
  • Prefer at least 5 years of experience and expertise with industrial anhydrous ammonia refrigeration systems and their associated equipment.
  • We will consider having at least 5 years' demonstrated experience in industrial maintenance or industrial electrical or controls systems in lieu of anhydrous ammonia experience

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining and operating efficiently and safely the anhydrous ammonia system and all its associated equipment according to PSM.
  • Operates and maintains steam, compressed air, heat trace, wastewater, glycol, water, and fire systems.
  • Has the mechanical, electrical and controls expertise to identify and repair equipment problems.
  • Follow all Mars safety / lock-out tag out procedures.
  • Conducts routine audits of equipment.
  • Maintains a professional and friendly line of communication with all associates and contractors.
  • Inspects and monitors the condition of equipment.
  • Identifies and follows-up on improvement opportunities.
  • Enters planned and unplanned work orders into SAP.
  • Provides maintenance/project assistance during planned shutdowns.
  • Provides preventative maintenance on anhydrous ammonia systems, steam systems, production-related HVAC systems, life safety systems, electrical systems, plumbing systems, wastewater systems and recommends repair or replacement actions.
  • Responds to emergency malfunction events, assesses the situation, and takes action to stabilize the situation to avoid further damage and safety risks. Documents and communicates off-normal incidents.
  • Records time and materials expenditures in SAP.
  • Active member of PSM team.
  • Following manufacturers and regulatory specifications. Reviews and updates building systems and equipment preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Outstanding communication skills.
  • The position follows regulatory compliance requirements, supports the Company and goal objectives, the department quality improvement and operating goals, and principles goals, individually and as an effective team member.
  • Be a resource during project installation.
  • Direct contractors.
  • Assists in start-up of new project and equipment.
  • Provides technical assistance and knowledge.
  • Identifies potential safety and quality risks.
  • Must complete all Mars training as scheduled.
