About The Position

Under the direction of the Early Learning Director, the Infant/Toddler Teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate program for infants and toddlers. The teacher provides a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports each child’s physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development. Major emphasis is placed on program excellence, relationship building with families, and providing quality care of the highest standard. The Infant/Toddler Teacher ensures that classroom activities, schedules, and routines follow established program plans and comply with all Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) regulations and YMCA policies. Requirements

  • Incumbent must be at least 19 years of age and possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with infants and/or toddlers in a licensed childcare setting.
  • Incumbent must have completed the Infant/Toddler Curriculum course as required by MSDE regulations.
  • Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with children, families, and staff while maintaining a professional and positive attitude.
  • Incumbent must be able to respond appropriately to safety and emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and lesson plans for infants and toddlers.
  • Provide attentive care including feeding, diapering, comforting, and maintaining daily routines.
  • Maintain accurate daily records including feeding schedules, diaper changes, naps, and developmental observations.
  • Ensure parents/guardians sign children in and out daily and communicate regularly with families regarding their child’s development and care.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and parents.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary, and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Supervise children at all times in accordance with YMCA and MSDE regulations.
  • Observe and support each child’s developmental milestones and social-emotional growth.
  • Expand job knowledge and classroom skills on an ongoing basis through professional development.
  • Assist with organizing classroom and center events.
  • Perform other tasks related to the operation of the early learning center and follow established childcare policies.
  • Attend all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Complete the following training within 30 days of hire: Redwoods, First Aid, CPR, YMCA online training, and MSDE required health and safety training.
  • Maintain all required training and certifications as required by MSDE and the YMCA of Hagerstown.
  • All other duties assigned.
