About The Position

The Infection Prevention and Control Nurse (IPC Nurse) provides oversight, consultation, and implementation of organization-wide Prevention and Control practices to minimize the acquisition and spread of infection in patients, staff, and all individuals who present to the organization. Job Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Infection prevention and control a. Serves as an expert in infection prevention and control and is a consultant and resource for departments and hospital staff regarding infection prevention and control. b. Coordinates Infection Prevention and Control program and maintains compliance with infection prevention and control guidelines and regulatory requirements. c. Infection Prevention and Control Program evaluation and revision; yearly and as needed. d. Conduct quality control tests for hospital waived tests including but not limited to, Influenza and Strep antigen tests. e. Collect, analyze and report data related but not limited to Healthcare Acquired Infections, surveillance and outbreaks. f. Complies with the reportable disease requirements of the local health authority. g. Conducts surveillance rounds, communicates findings and contributes to interdisciplinary collaboration regarding findings. h. Coordinates the Infection Control Dashboard and reports to the appropriate committee. i. Collaborates with quality, regulatory, nursing and environmental services departments on required audits and process improvement programs. j. Demonstrate understanding of Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Organizations (JCAHO), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), State of Wisconsin Standards, and other regulatory agency compliance regulations: k. Act as a resource for standards & offer interpretation of standards as requested. l. Coordinates as required by law with federal, state, and local emergency preparedness and health authorities to address communicable disease threats, bioterrorism, and outbreaks. m. Develop educational plans to achieve compliance with new and revised standards as requested. n. Maintain, monitor and review policies and standard work annually and as needed. o. Collaborates with Facilities department on construction projects and conducts Appendix D documentation. 2. Education a. Contribute to development of and implementation of annual training materials for Infection Prevention and Control for staff, as directed. b. Provide continuing staff education related to Infection Prevention and Control practices meeting Joint Commission, Federal and State(s) regulations. 3. Comply with the Hospital’s policies and procedures and the Infection Control and Employee Health programs. 4. Perform all other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred. Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment. License must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment
  • Current ICRA certification or completion of certification within 90 days of employment required.
  • Infection control coursework completed (Example: APIC Intensive) or completed within 6 months of employment.
  • American Health Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or is required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire. Bi-annual re-certification is required.
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient is required within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire. Annual recertification is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous infection prevention and control and/or psychiatric experience preferred.
