About The Position

As the Infection Prevention Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for assisting the Infection Prevention Manager in all activities related to the prevention, control, documentation and reporting of nosocomial acquired infections and communicable diseases at Seneca Healthcare District. These responsibilities include setting standards and evaluating compliance for practices that are associated with the prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections. This will include (but are not limited to) surveillance, analysis, and reporting. Seneca Healthcare District’s goal is to provide a safe environment through the prevention of infection in patients, families, employees, and visitors. Because of the confidential nature of Infection Prevention matters, this Position is designated as a confidential employee and therefore, exempt from union status.

Requirements

  • RN with minimum of five (5) years of experience.
  • BLS and ACLS current certifications.
  • Must possess demonstrated flexibility in responding to the needs of multiple constituencies with a service-oriented philosophy.
  • Must possess demonstrated skill in problem analysis, project management, conflict resolution and oral and written presentations.
  • Requires ability to balance and manage multiple projects.
  • Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Possess the ability to work independently with little or no direction.
  • Always maintains professionalism.
  • Thorough knowledge of administrative procedures with the ability to interpret Administration and Human Resources policies, union contract and procedures clearly and accurately.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, Microsoft word and Excel, the use of office machines and equipment including but not limited to computers and photocopiers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervising personnel, co-workers, the media, representatives from all levels of government, civic organizations, business professionals, the medical staff and the general public.
  • Ability to project a positive, concerned image to the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Follows safe work practices, takes an active interest in preventing injury or illness and promoting a safe and healthful environment for self and others, and complies with Hospital and governmental safety regulations.
  • Must function independently, have personal integrity, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with other personnel, clients, and support agencies
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts, walks, and moves intermittently during working hours and ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • CIC certification preferred or obtained within 2-3 years.
  • Strong understanding of infection control, epidemiology, and data analysis preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NHSN, Infection Prevention guidelines, and regulatory requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Helps in developing action plans to correct negative variances.
  • Assists in the development and helps coordinate the infection prevention and control program throughout the facility.
  • Serves as a resource and subject matter expert to staff, leaders, medical staff, patients and the community for infection prevention and control.
  • Assists with epidemiological investigations of significant clusters of infections and single cases of unusual infection.
  • Assists in preparing reports and statistical data for the infection prevention committee, medical staff committees, medical executive committee and the facilities administration and other committees as needed.
  • Maintains CONFIDENTIALITY of departmental and patient information.
  • Attends and participates in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs as directed.
  • Completes annual health requirements in a timely manner.
  • Attends Quality Assurance, Infection Control, Pharmacy and Therapeutics and other department meetings as specified by Infection Prevention Manager
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
