About The Position

The Infirmary Intern/Assistant plays an important supportive and welcoming role in Camp Health Center. Working alongside the Camp Nurse and Infirmary Manager, Interns help ensure that campers feel heard, cared for, and supported when they visit the infirmary. This is a non-clinical role focused on organization, communication, and camper support rather than medical care. Infirmary Interns are fully part of the camp community and: Participate in daily camp life, including meals in the dining hall and all-camp activities Attend and enjoy special events such as campfires, carnivals, theme days, and celebrations Build friendships with fellow staff members from across the United States and around the world Have opportunities to connect with counselors, program staff, and leadership outside of infirmary hours

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Strong communication skills, patience, and a calm presence
  • Comfortable listening, organizing information, and working as part of a team
  • Certified or able to become certified in First Aid & CPR (Red Cross training also provided at camp)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children or in youth-serving environments preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support camper wellness check-ins, helping campers explain what they’re feeling or what’s bothering them
  • Welcome campers to the infirmary and help guide the flow of visits, including waiting times and next steps with the nurse
  • Assist campers with simple comfort measures (such as setting up a foot soak or a quiet rest space) under staff direction
  • Take notes and help with basic documentation as directed by the Infirmary Manager
  • Support communication tasks, including assisting with parent phone calls alongside senior infirmary staff
  • Help keep the infirmary organized, calm, and welcoming throughout the day
  • Accompany campers as needed for off-site appointments with supervision
  • Be a steady, reassuring presence for campers who may be homesick, nervous, or not feeling well
  • Assist with the daily reports on Infirmary population, sickness concerns, and accidents
  • Assist Camp Nurses with parent meetings on opening day of each session to receive medicines and to discuss any health matters pertinent to the camper
  • Assist with informing camp staff of health issues with campers and educate counselors on how to provide care for campers with health issues
