About The Position

The Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) is responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical Space Force information systems. The ISSO implements, monitors, and enforces security controls in accordance with regulatory, contractual, and organizational requirements. This role plays a critical part in system authorization, continuous monitoring, incident response, and compliance with security frameworks such as NIST, ISO, or industry-specific standards.

Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related Science, Technology or Mathematics field.
  • Also requires 2+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree and 6 months of job-related experience.
  • Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire.
  • Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret Clearance in a reasonable amount of time

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain security controls for information systems in accordance with approved security plans and policies
  • Support system authorization and accreditation processes (e.g., ATO, reauthorization)
  • Monitor system security posture and perform continuous monitoring activities
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, risk analyses, and security impact assessments
  • Ensure compliance with applicable frameworks and regulations (e.g., NIST RMF, ISO 27001, HIPAA, CJIS, FedRAMP)
  • Review system changes and assess security impacts prior to implementation
  • Coordinate and participate in security audits, assessments, and inspections
  • Track and remediate Plan of Action & Milestones (POA&Ms)
  • Investigate and respond to security incidents, documenting findings and corrective actions
  • Ensure security documentation is current, accurate, and approved
  • Collaborate with system owners, administrators, developers, and compliance teams
  • Assist COMSEC custodians in the execution of COMSEC duties in the local office space
