Peraton is seeking a Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to provide cybersecurity engineering and risk management expertise across mission-critical aviation systems. In this role, you will ensure security is embedded into system architectures from design through deployment, supporting the protection of technologies that enable safe and efficient air traffic management. This position offers a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of cybersecurity, aviation infrastructure, and national modernization initiatives. Work Location: This position will work on site in the DC Metro area. Once operations are fully established, we will consider telework options however, this is not guaranteed. Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship Required.
- Must have the ability to obtain / maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of experience or Associate’s degree and 14 years experience or HS diploma/equivalent and 16 years experience.
- Proven expertise in information systems security engineering.
- Proven expertise with vulnerability assessment tools, continuous monitoring strategies, and compliance frameworks.
- Strong understanding of risk management, system hardening, and secure configuration practices.
- Familiarity with network security, cloud environments, and encryption technologies.
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and collaboration skills.
- Experience supporting incident response investigations and remediation activities.
Nice To Haves
- Experience supporting FAA programs or National Airspace System (NAS) environments.
- Familiarity with NextGen or BNATCS modernization initiatives.
- Familiarity with aviation operations, air traffic management, or transportation systems.
- Industry certifications such as CISSP, Security+, CISM, or similar cybersecurity credentials.
- Experience supporting DevSecOps pipelines and secure software development practices.
- Knowledge of Zero Trust principles and modern security architectures.
- Knowledge of cloud security frameworks and FedRAMP compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Provide cybersecurity engineering oversight across the system development lifecycle (SDLC) to ensure security is integrated by design.
- Implement and validate security controls aligned with NIST SP 800-53, FISMA, and Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements.
- Support vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and risk analysis to identify and mitigate potential threats.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, and infrastructure engineers to embed security controls within system designs and configurations.
- Integrate continuous monitoring practices into operational and development environments.
- Develop and maintain security documentation including System Security Plans (SSPs), POA&Ms, security assessments, and authorization artifacts.
- Participate in architecture reviews and security design evaluations to ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity standards.
- Support incident response planning, investigation, and remediation activities to strengthen system resilience.
- Evaluate emerging cybersecurity threats and recommend proactive mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering teams on secure coding practices, access control, and system hardening.
- Contribute to system authorization activities and continuous monitoring programs.
- Strengthen the safety of the U.S. aviation system.
