Job Description: At Regions, the Infrastructure Architect will design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in cloud and on-premises architecture, networking, virtualization, and automation, and will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business and technology goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and five (5) years of experience in infrastructure architecture or related roles
  • Or High School Diploma or GED and nine (9) years of experience in infrastructure architecture or related roles
  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
  • Ability to articulate complex technical concepts or scenarios to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to effectively evaluate risk vs. reward
  • Ability to independently solve problems with sound judgement
  • Ability to translate complex technical information across all levels of the organization through communications and/or presentations
  • Ability to work in a team environment when applicable
  • Advanced knowledge of security principles, solutions, tools, methodologies, and techniques
  • Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or other service management frameworks
  • Knowledge of risks associated with virtualization and cloud-based computing and the impact of those technologies on an organization’s security posture
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong research, analytical, and/or problem-solving skills for evaluating situations, making recommendations, and taking effective action
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Architect, Cisco, VMware) are a plus
  • Hands on Experience: Compute/Virtualization: VMware vSphere/ESXi clusters, vCenter, vSAN or array‑backed designs; capacity & performance modeling; Lifecycle Manager; multi‑site stretch and SRM, Server lifecycle management, patching, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) upgrades
  • Networking: Enterprise routing/switching (Cisco), SD‑WAN, QoS, NAC, segmentation (VRF/EVPN/VXLAN), DNS/DHCP/IPAM; branch and campus network design at scale; Load balancers, survivability patterns
  • Telephony/UC: Cisco CUCM/Unity/Contact Center or equivalent; SIP trunking; QoS/CoS across WAN; survivability patterns, Network segmentation, VRFs, EVPN/VXLAN, firewall integration
  • Mainframe: IBM z/OS conceptual familiarity (LPARs, workload mgmt, storage connectivity, DR/Geo resiliency); integration patterns with distributed and data networks.
  • Storage/SAN: Fibre Channel fabrics (Brocade/Cisco), multipathing, zoning best practices; enterprise arrays; performance tiers; snapshot/replication strategies.
  • Backup & Recovery: Enterprise backup tooling (e.g., NetBackup, Commvault, TSM/Spectrum Protect), immutable backups, cyber‑recovery vaults, RPO/RTO design, restore testing cadences. ransomware‑resilient patterns
  • Databases: Reference designs and SLOs for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and others (HA/DR, backup, encryption, performance tiers, licensing implications). DR runbooks and data placement strategies
  • Public Cloud: AWS/Azure/GCP core networking (VPC/VNet), hybrid connectivity (IPSec/Direct Connect/ExpressRoute), landing zones, IAM, logging/monitoring, cloud DR, and cost controls. Landing zones, cloud governance, FinOps considerations
  • Containers, Orchestration & DevSecOps: Enterprise Kubernetes platforms (AKS/EKS/GKE or on‑prem Openshift), Container networking, service mesh, registry management; CI/CD pipelines integrating security gates and code‑based infrastructure; Secrets management, vault integration, vulnerability scanning, image signing, AppSec controls embedded into DevSecOps workflows
  • SaaS & Hosted Apps: Identity federation (SAML/OIDC), private connectivity (PrivateLink/Private Service Connect), data egress patterns, and SLA integration.
  • Security Integration: Firewalling (NGFW), micro‑segmentation, secrets/keys (HSM/KMS), endpoint/server hardening baselines, vulnerability mgmt hooks.
  • Observability: Enterprise monitoring, logging, SIEM/SOAR integration, synthetic testing, and SLO dashboards.
  • Automation: IaC (Terraform/biceps), config mgmt. (Ansible), CI/CD hooks for infra changes, golden image pipelines (Packer).
  • ITSM & Operational Integration: ServiceNow platform experience, especially: HAM (Hardware Asset Management), SAM (Software Asset Management), CMDB modeling and dependency mapping, Change/Incident/Problem workflows, Service modeling, service catalogs, and operational readiness governance; Discovery and asset management workflows

Responsibilities

  • Designs and implement infrastructure solutions that align with enterprise architecture standards and business requirements
  • Evaluates and recommends technologies, tools, and platforms to improve infrastructure performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Collaborates with application, security, and operations teams to ensure infrastructure supports application needs and complies with security policies
  • Develops and maintains documentation for infrastructure architecture, standards, and procedures
  • Guides efforts in infrastructure automation using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or PowerShell
  • Contributes to the creation and refinement of infrastructure roadmaps, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technology initiatives with long-term business strategy
  • Monitors system performance and troubleshoot issues across cloud and on-prem environments
  • Participates in capacity planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity initiatives
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and internal standards for infrastructure systems
  • May mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing across the organization
  • Stays current with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve infrastructure capabilities
