POSITION SUMMARY: As a BMC Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will be preparing and distributing medications, operating and monitoring pharmacy automated technology systems, maintaining inventory, performing daily quality assurance audits, providing customer service, and maintaining pharmacy records. You will assists in training staff under the supervision and guidance of the Pharmacy Managers and Pharmacy Technician Supervisor to help further BMC’s mission of providing exceptional care for all. Position: Inpatient Certified Pharmacy Technician Department: Inpatient Pharmacy Schedule: Full Time, 36 hours (7 days on & 7 days off)

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED
  • Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern with the MA Board of Pharmacy by the hire date (Pharmacy Interns are not required to hold CPhT certification)
  • Must also have national certification from Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam of Certified Pharmacy Techs (exCPT)
  • Work requires 1-2 years pharmacy technician experience.
  • Pharmacy students who have completed 2 years of education in an approved college/school of pharmacy are eligible for pharmacy internship, and may be waived for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with sterile (IV) compounding is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing product for use, including packaging, repacking, compounding, bar-coding, or any other manipulation.
  • Performing medication preparation in accordance with law, regulation, accreditation standards, and hospital policy or procedure, including participating in a double check system for all preparation.
  • Provides assistance with inventory control (receiving, stocking, replenishment) including: Receiving product (e.g. from wholesalers, direct shipments etc.) and stocking the product in accordance with laws and regulations for storage of product and in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Communicates to pharmacists and/or pharmacy technician supervisor on malfunctioning equipment and unsafe working conditions
  • Providing the highest level of customer service, including answering the telephone, greeting customers and guests in person and in any other interaction.
  • Attends and participates in hospital and other management training and development workshops.
  • Must have/maintain national technician certification through PTCB or exCPT
