A competent Psychiatric Registered Nurse who practices psychiatric-mental health nursing. Performs general nursing tasks for the holistic care and treatment of patients’ medical and psychiatric needs. This professional nurse shall possess specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities that have been obtained through education and experience in caring for persons with behavioral health needs, psychiatric disorders, co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders. Expectations include participation in the assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementing, coordination of care, health teaching and health promotion of a unique patient population. Psychiatric-mental health nursing care functions also include counseling (individual and group counseling) and safety management of the therapeutic milieu in a secure forensic facility. Provide counseling interventions including communication and interviewing techniques, problem-solving activities, crisis intervention, stress management, supportive skill building and educational groups, relaxation techniques, assertiveness training, and conflict resolution. Nurses are expected to engage in mission-driven leadership focused on patient care and quality improvement. Additionally, staff member is expected to follow policies and procedures of the facility. Nurses are required to adhere to time and attendance policies including mandatory overtime. Staff member shall be subject to being recalled to duty, being held over and to irregular day/shift rotation whenever necessary to provide adequate coverage to meet facility needs. This position is deemed essential and has been designated for mandatory operations by the Appointing Authority; therefore, the staff member is not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave.
