The Science Instructional Coach is a specialized instructional leadership role focused exclusively on academic achievement in science and coaching high school science teachers. This position contributes to improved student achievement by building teacher capacity through deep content knowledge, data-driven instructional decision-making, and research-based instructional practice. Unlike traditional coaching models that focus primarily on instructional strategies, Santa Fe South instructional coaches are content specialists . The Science Instructional Coach is expected to bring strong, practical experience teaching high school science and to support teachers in driving students toward mastery by anticipating misconceptions, analyzing student work and assessment data, and refining instruction accordingly. This role requires an uncompromising belief that all students can achieve at high levels and that all teachers- regardless of experience- can and should continue growing their craft . As part of this work, the instructional coach partners closely with teachers to analyze data-based student needs and current teacher practice to set performance and development goals. Common coaching activities include modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, observation and feedback, and individual conferencing. The instructional coach may facilitate content teams and assist the site leader in providing professional development. In addition, the instructional coach collaborates with the district Academic Team to develop curriculum and common assessments.
