About The Position

Position is paid with grant funding Job Summary Position is responsible for supplementing and supporting the school division’s preschool curriculum and early childhood initiatives by working alongside the preschool and elementary supervisors and specialists. Particular attention will be given to supporting and improving teacher-student interactions and providing equitable access to early childhood experiences.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Virginia teaching license.
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Must possess at least three years of recent and successful early childhood teaching experience.
  • Must demonstrate evidence of involvement in school and division activities and committees involving leadership responsibilities beyond those required in the classroom.
  • Must possess an in-depth knowledge of instructional best practices in early childhood, curriculum development, and adult learning theory.
  • Must possess excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers and administrators.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists in implementing and assessing the district’s preschool curriculum and other instructional programs as aligned with the Virginia Department of Education Early Learning and Development Standards.
  • Collaborate on oversight of preschool initiatives and is responsible for coaching, supporting, and guiding teachers in early childhood practices.
  • Assists with planning, developing, and implementing an effective structure for preschool grade level leads and reading specialists.
  • Participates in the planning of professional development to promote best practices in teacher-student interactions, instruction, and assessment.
  • Assists with planning and conducting local CLASS observations as part of the Virginia Preschool Initiative requirements.
  • Assists with the selection of instructional materials and equipment, and with the implementation of innovative practices in early childhood.
  • Remains abreast of professional development literature, participates in professional organizations, attends (as appropriate) workshops related to best practices, and disseminates information to others.
  • Assists with monitoring student assessment results and provides assistance to improve student performance.
  • Initiates and maintains effective liaisons to maintain a current knowledge of developments and research in the profession.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
