About The Position

The Instructor Coordinator is directly responsible for the actions of students during their scheduled program related activities. Directly responsible for the actions of the personnel who assist in program who assist in program related activities (i.e. substitute teachers, laboratory assistants). Has discretionary authority over personnel to ensure Mobile Medical Response Policies and Procedures are adhered to.

Requirements

  • State of Michigan licensure as a Paramedic or EMT Instructor/Coordinator.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an “active” EMS provider, at same or higher level than is expected to teach
  • Experience teaching, precepting, or field training, preferably in the EMS field
  • Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver license and maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by MMR’s insurance carrier
  • Must attend assigned meetings
  • May be appointed to position without degree, however, MMR encourages instructors to begin course work towards a Bachelor’s degree within 12 months of being appointed
  • Must have Trauma, ACLS and Pediatrics provider status and BLS Instructor status for EMT or higher-level EMS programs.
  • EMS Instruction awareness: Knows the key concepts and variables that define EMS instruction. (i.e. MDCIS MDHHS-BEPESOC requirement, EMS program accreditation requirements and DOT standards
  • Ability to serve as an effective role model for students and subordinates
  • Ability to public speak
  • Knowledge of instructional equipment and maintenance
  • Ability to gain respect from others rather than demand it and create a positive learning atmosphere
  • Ability to adapt to different styles, ideas and changes
  • Ability to identify problems before they occur and effectively deal with stressful situations that do occur
  • Advanced computer skills including the ability to utilize a computer PC with Windows operating system, and Google products
  • Ability to operate office equipment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Skilled in typing, data entry, electronic filing, document retrieval and advanced map applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, in the English language
  • A minimum of a 2-year commitment to the education division as an instructor/ coordinator is required upon selection
  • Must complete initial and annual Bloodborne Pathogens Training
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Suitable dexterity to operate standard office equipment.
  • Capability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, reach and squat.

Nice To Haves

  • Instructor status for special programs is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Know and support the Mission Statement, Policy/Procedures and standards of MMR.
  • Coordinate and supervise the activities of any personnel and students assigned to them.
  • Ensure that students and personnel are fully informed of company policies, local procedures and other information pertinent to the education department, the class and objectives applicable to class sessions.
  • Assist students with the resources needed for course completion.
  • Coordinate necessary support and resources as necessary and approved to meet needs of the program.
  • Review and act upon, as necessary, all incidents, accidents, deviations/exceptions and other reports forwarded from students, preceptors, assistants and Education Manager as they relate to the instructors class/program.
  • Advise, consult with and/or refer to the Education Manager issues as appropriate and indicated.
  • Ensure that classroom resources are available, functional and set up as needed to present the components of the training session/program (i.e. handouts, AV equipment, and practical skills equipment).
  • Ensure that, under CoAEMSP (Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Providers)standards, course records are created and maintained to include student health and registration information, student didactic, laboratory and clinical progress, behavior modification notations, pre and post course information, applications, wavers, sample evaluation tools, etc. as they relate to the course in which the instructor is responsible.
  • Complete program coordination steps as outlined by CoAEMSP, or MMR Education Department and submit to the program director for approval in a timely manner.
  • Prepare for and present information/skills as necessary to instruct a specific subject matter according to recommended guidelines and produce a successful outcome.
  • Create, administer and document results of evaluations to monitor student progress and identify areas that may need more attention by the instructor and responds appropriately.
  • Provide oversight of the clinical and field experience options as they apply to students enrolled in the instructor’s course/program.
  • Ensure that program preparation is complete and ongoing as necessary so that programs are run in an efficient manner.
  • Have students complete evaluation required by the program director and documents steps taken to resolve identified deficiencies.
  • Check and maintain education resources.
  • Keep equipment and storage areas clean and organized.
  • Request supplies/repairs in a timely manner so that deficiencies may be corrected prior to need.
  • Contribute to the marketing process as requested.
  • Arrange for, transport and return equipment in a timely manner as needed for on and off site training programs.
  • Assist with special program coordination/instruction as assigned/approved (i.e. Specialty courses, continuing education, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
