About The Position

The Mathematics Department at Middlesex College invites applications for a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track Instructor position. We seek a colleague committed to excellent, equity-minded teaching that advances student persistence, completion, and transfer success in a diverse learning community. The position includes a 15-contact-hour teaching load per semester (typically five 3-credit courses, depending on modality and departmental needs) and five (5) office hours per week for advisement and tutoring, along with participation in departmental and college-wide activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics; or Master’s degree in Mathematics Education with at least 18 graduate credits in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/Statistics
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality, student-centered instruction and equitable student outcomes
  • College-level teaching experience
  • Ability to effectively use instructional technologies, including: Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas), appropriate mathematical tools/software (e.g., MATLAB, Desmos, graphing/online calculators)
  • Responsible and effective use of artificial intelligence (AI) to support teaching and learning, consistent with academic integrity and College expectations
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Doctoral degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field
  • Experience teaching in a community college environment and/or with a diverse student population
  • Successful experience teaching online, hybrid, and asynchronous courses
  • Experience implementing Open Educational Resources (OER) and/or low-cost materials to reduce student costs

Responsibilities

  • Teach mathematics courses across the curriculum, which may include developmental mathematics, quantitative reasoning, college algebra, precalculus, calculus, and statistics, based on departmental needs.
  • Design and deliver engaging instruction, including active learning, collaborative problem-solving, inclusive teaching practices, and technology-enhanced learning, and develop and maintain course materials aligned with departmental and institutional standards.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth and mastery, including but not limited to maintaining accurate records of student performance, grades, and attendance in accordance with college policies and deadlines.
  • Hold regular office hours (five office hours per week) and provide academic guidance, including support with study strategies and referrals to tutoring and other learning resources.
  • Participate in departmental, divisional, and college-wide services, and engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in mathematics content, pedagogy, instructional technology, and student success practices.
