About The Position

Academic Faculty Contract, 171-day, Benefits Eligible. The position is being filled through an emergency appointment. Appointment to the role on a permanent basis is contingent upon meeting additional recruitment requirements WNC Faculty should anticipate being assigned to teach one or more classes at any of the WNC campuses or rural centers, and to teach via distance learning however preference will be given to candidates residing in Fallon primarily. This position is subject to a background check.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Master‘s degree in nursing (MSN) from a regionally accredited college or university; AND a minimum of four years of clinical experiences in an acute care setting. A combination of academic teaching and clinic practice experience may be substituted for the years of experience requirement, OR A Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from a regionally accredited college or university and current enrollment in a Master's of Nursing (MSN) program from a regionally accredited college or university with demonstration of satisfactory academic progress; AND a minimum of six years of clinical experience in an acute care setting. A combination of academic teaching and clinic practice experience may be substituted for the years of experience requirement.
  • NOTE: Employment for candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree (BSN) is contingent on approval by the Nevada Board of Nursing. Approval will be sought by Western Nevada College

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with additional competencies in pediatric, maternal child and/or simulation experience;
  • College classroom and/or clinical teaching, curriculum development, instructional design, and laboratory simulation and supervision

Responsibilities

  • Assume a leadership role in the delivery of the medical/surgical nursing curriculum in the classroom, laboratory and clinical environments
  • Collaborate with other nursing faculty in the instruction of medical/surgical and other related nursing content
  • Prepare and present lecture/discussion and laboratory learning experiences which incorporate active and alternative teaching methodologies
  • Participate in traditional and/or non-traditional classroom/laboratory settings and web-based courses as assigned; work with current faculty to utilize simulation learning and evaluation activities
  • Perform at a level that reflects scholarship and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices
  • Correct assignments, quizzes, examinations and care plans in a timely manner, using the agreed-upon grading policy
  • Educate and supervise students in laboratory and clinical settings (days, evenings, nights and weekends) in Carson City, Reno, and rural sites as assigned
  • Participate in nursing faculty committee meetings, college-wide/departmental meetings and professional development activities
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner and be self-directed after initial orientation to assignments
  • Maintain professional performance that reflects scholarship and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices
  • Participate in community service activities
  • Participate in program review and academic program assessment
  • Perform all responsibilities set forth in Board of Regents Handbook. Title 2, Chapter 4, Section 4.4.2., Standards for Recommending Appointment with Tenure
  • Perform safely in a latex environment
  • Participate in maintaining an environment of civility and non-discrimination
