About The Position

Lifespan Risk Services (LRS) is organized and operated for the purpose of coordinating insurance administrative, loss prevention and claims functions for Brown University Health. Under the supervision of the LRS Director of Insurance and Business Operations, position requires a variety of business and customer service duties to support LRS internal and external customers. Requires working with Director the Insurance Underwriting Coordinator (Coordinator) will develop and maintain an intimate knowledge of the Brown University Health’s self-insurance and commercial program and processes. Responsibilities include: working with internal and external customers to complete commercial insurance renewal applications; u working with medical physician group managers to accurately maintain clinical staff underwriting information in the LRS’ policy management system; coordinate and complete insurance certificates and claim history requests; provide LRS claims systems support; coordinate and maintain insurance records and files; assist the Sr. Business Analyst with daily cash reconciliations and other financial tracking and analysis support; and assist with a variety of other administrative support services. Requirements

  • Associates Degree in business, secretarial or related field, or the equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft PC Word, Excel, and Outlook software applications required.
  • Requires excellent organizational and detail management skills and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of customers, including physicians and Brown University Health leadership.
  • Must have a positive attitude, a commitment to customer service and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • At least five years experience demonstrating strong analytical and excel skills and customer service and business support functions.
  • Requires excellent organizational and detail management skills and ability to communicate effectively with a variety of customers, including physicians and administrative leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of Personal Computers, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating the commercial insurance and self-insurance applications process, which includes maintaining the insurance renewal calendar; working cooperatively with other Brown University Health departments and affiliates to gather information; corresponding and exchanging information with Brown University Health 's insurance broker and actuary; preparing and reviewing application submissions with Director; and submitting insurance applications and processing insurance invoices in a timely manner.
  • Work with the insurance broker to track and maintain policies and documentation. On an on-going basis throughout the year, Coordinator will maintain excel spreadsheets which are used for manager 's reference and application submissions.
  • Utilizing Brown University Health 's underwriting/policy management system, coordinate the renewal Brown University Health Malpractice Plan (LMP) application process for your assigned affiliated medical physician groups (MPG). Coordinator will work with MPG 's business or practice manager(s) to ensure physician applications and underwriting changes are completed and documentation is delivered to the manager(s) in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate LMP and RISE policies and documentation. Ensure the latest versions for all policies and documentation are maintained and organized - in an easy to find user friendly manner - on LRS ' shared drive. Ensure latest forms are synchronized with versions maintained with Brown University Health 's outside general counsel and the underwriting/policy management system.
  • Coordinator will assist the Sr. Business Analyst with daily cash reconciliations and other financial tracking and analysis support. Trained by the Sr. Business Analyst, the coordinator will assist with some underwriting/policy management system administrator functions, including working with the vendor to update latest forms in the system, as needed.
  • Prepare and provide LMP claim history experience and coverage related documents for both physician and hospital insureds in response to inquiries by current, past and future physician and hospital insureds. Must be familiar with the coverage provided by Brown University Health 's liability insurance plans. Coordinator must also be familiar with the LRS ' claims system so that required information can be accessed independently and reports generated. Work closely with LRS claims system administrator, as needed.
  • Run claims reports for various purposes, including malpractice loss histories, data validation reports, quarterly &bordereau reports to the excess insurance carriers, annual actuarial submission, and annual captive insurance meetings regarding summaries of claims activity and financial results. Upload accounts payable legal bills interface into the claims system on a weekly basis.
  • Provide backup administrative phone triage support for Risk Management and LRS and assist with constable summons and complaint server deliveries. Be familiar with Brown University Health 's organizational structure, its business, its insurance program and its claims and underwriting/policy management systems.
  • As directed, participate in special projects requiring knowledge of department and organization. Must be able to utilize software programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.. May assume regular responsibilities for recurring projects or programs requiring knowledge of department or corporate operations and the use of independent judgment.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
