About The Position

Intake Counselor- Full Time serves as the first point of contact for referral sources and potential patients to schedule assessments and/or admissions. Responds to incoming calls to the hospital to accommodate coordination for referrals/admissions. Will provide assessment of patients, psychiatric and medical status. Responsible for making sure all inquiries, referrals, and admissions are documented accurately in the computer system and that notes regarding referrals and upcoming admissions are documented on proper forms. Responsible to ensure all referral patient medical record information is completed and nursing and clinical staff are adequately apprised of the patients condition/history. Responsible to ensure referral material is copied/distributed and prepared in unit charts as required. To assess, direct and intervene in crisis situations. To provide leadership and direction to mental health technicians. To contribute to treatment plan as a member of interdisciplinary team. To provide and direct milieu management. To provide health education to patients and families. To maintain confidentiality of patients medical records. Must be able to communicate with sensitivity to growth, development, and cultural issues. To attend mandatory training and in-services.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree and Licensed by State of Texas in Counseling (LPC)
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the mental health field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience providing therapeutic services, case management.
  • Prior intake, assessment, admission and crisis intervention experience with a psychiatric mental health population, preferably in an inpatient setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer knowledge of hospital admission functions, psychological assessment and risk assessment, psychiatric diagnoses symptomatology, basic chemical dependency, age specific growth and development and crisis and behavior management.
