The Interface Engineer is responsible for leading the development and authoring of Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs) to establish and maintain interfaces between external elements, including sensors and Command and Control systems. This role ensures interface artifacts meet required program standards and support clear implementation, integration, and test execution across assigned systems.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated understanding of systems engineering processes and principles.
  • Proven experience applying systems engineering principles to develop product solutions.
  • Experience in requirements elicitation, including the use of behavioral diagrams to analyze and decompose requirements.
  • Interface engineering experience, including authoring Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs).
  • Experience defining and documenting: Message definitions and processing rules Message formatting (e.g., XML, VMF, or similar formats) Physical and network specifications and models, including ISO OSI model concepts Physical and network topologies and devices Network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP)
  • Experience developing behavioral models and diagrams, including: Use case diagrams Sequence diagrams Activity diagrams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelors with 9+ or Master with 7+ Years of Experience
  • Secret DOD 8570 REQUIREMENT

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and authoring of Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs).
  • Establish new interfaces between external elements, including sensors and Command and Control systems.
  • Ensure ICDs and IDDs comply with applicable program standards and requirements.
  • Develop behavioral diagrams to analyze, understand, and document system and interface requirements.
  • Create and manage detailed requirements captured in IBM Rational DOORS to support implementation teams.
  • Develop and update multiple ICDs and IDDs for assigned interfaces.
  • Participate in interface working group meetings with MDA customers and external element engineering organizations.
  • Support program integration and test activities related to assigned interfaces.
  • Support other interface engineers in developing ICDs for additional BMDS elements, as assigned.
  • Support requirements engineering, use case development, and logical architecture modeling tasks as required by Systems Engineering tasking.
  • Support spiral leadership activities to ensure interface artifacts and system assessment tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Support non-interface systems engineering activities as required.
