About The Position

The Interfraternity Council Advisor (Student Development Specialist III) is responsible for supporting the advising and administration of programs as part of the Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) team. Serves as the primary advisor for the Interfraternity Council (IFC). FSL provides organizational support, advising, and training to approximately 60 fraternity and sorority organizations at Texas A&M to enhance the leadership development, civic engagement, health, and safety of chapter members.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3 years of student affairs related experience with at least 2 years' experience in student affairs.
• Knowledge of the influence of college student development on student behavior and decision-making.
• Ability to establish collaborations with on-campus academic and student affairs departments, community and inter/national partners.
• Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or related field with two years' experience in student affairs work or related specialty area.
• Experience as an advisor to Interfraternity, Panhellenic, Multicultural Greek, or National Pan-Hellenic councils.
• Formal academic or organization advising training or risk management training.
• Significant student group advising, leadership training, and experience in specific areas and duties described in this position description.

Responsibilities

• Interfraternity Council (IFC) Advisor: Serves as the primary advisor for the Interfraternity Council (IFC). Is responsible for supporting the advising, coordination, administration, education, and training of programs for the fraternity and sorority community. Advises student leaders, chapter members, and chapters. Attends IFC meetings and programs. Attending chapter meetings, as needed. Maintains pertinent student records. Understands laws, policies, and procedures, and provides education and training for chapters. Enhance accountability and risk management practices. Ensures strong financial practices and provides support to IFC in understanding other infrastructure needs such as student travel, document reviews, inventory management, risk reviews, etc. Establishes and maintains essential communication channels with both educational and non-educational agencies.
• Risk Prevention Education & Training: Provide comprehensive education and training for fraternities and sororities that facilitates an appreciation and understanding of risk prevention and management. Ensure compliance, training, and education of all student organizations, including fraternities and sororities with local, state, and federal laws regarding alcohol, hazing, Title IX and other applicable issues impacting student organizations.
• FSL Team Member: Supports initiatives within the Fraternity and Sorority Life team including goal setting and strategic planning, assessment initiatives, stakeholder management, development initiatives, and marketing. Keeps abreast of issues and best practices related to fraternity and sorority life. Serves as the lead coordinator for designated operational enhancements and initiatives for the office.
• Community Support: Supports council activities and associated inter/national fraternity and sorority chapters, effectively managing council operations - including budget, risk management, accountability processes, and evaluation of effectiveness of programs. Monitors fiscal activities of student groups. Serves as a liaison between inter/national fraternity, chapter and the University.
• University Service: Serves as an integral member of the larger Department of Student Activities and Division of Student Affairs team through service on university, division, department committees and/or taskforces.
