About The Position

Your Opportunity: Our New York City office is looking for an engaged and enthusiastic student attending college or university for Interior Design to join us as an intern this summer. Learning begins in the classroom but there's no better place to gain real-world experience than with Stantec. Interns are an integral part of our teams, working to solve some of the most complex challenges, and bringing fresh perspective and new ideas to the table. At Stantec we design with community in mind, and you will have an opportunity to be enrolled in our company wide intern development summer program. In this program you will join a diversified team of your peers guided by our experienced interior designers, architects and engineers as you collaboratively work together on a community enriching project. You will work on tasks with close guidance and direction from a Senior Designer or Architect. You will be working on projects specializing in space programming and site planning, as well as developing elevations, renderings, and interior details with the rest of the team. You will be assisting with innovative and creative new prototypes, design with sustainability in mind, and attend building site visits and client interactions. The development of collaborative skills and integration with all our disciplines is a fundamental principle for Stantec Architecture and being an active member of our team will help you on your way to obtaining your NCIDQ through the breadth of your experience. As an intern at Stantec, you'll work alongside our experienced practitioners and with our clients and communities. This hands-on experience will equip you with practical skills, build your network, and provide opportunities that set you up for success.

Requirements

  • Great team player with excellent communication skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to develop sketches and communicate visual concepts and ideas to others effectively.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
  • Strong technical skills with high proficiency in Revit, Enscape, Adobe Creative Suite, visualization, and graphics software.
  • Working toward bachelor's or master's degree in interior design or related field and in their third year of a bachelor's program or in a master's program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Microsoft PowerPoint preferred
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel a plus
  • Previous work experience or internship a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in research of concepts, benchmarks, materials, typology, and precedents.
  • Conduct basic interpretations of sketches, drawings, codes, building program and other similar material.
  • Support project team in development of design documentation and presentations.
  • Work with Senior Designers to identify gaps in the materials library, coordinate with vendors to update current samples and return outdated items.
  • Arrange meetings with product and material vendors to come in to present Continuing Education Unit (CEU) opportunities for the design team.
  • Attend meetings, both internal and client facing, with goals to observe design coordination and presentations.
  • Assist in the development of a design through sketches, 3D models diagrams, massing studies, and other visual formats.
  • Utilize BIM technologies in development of 3D models of buildings and their components.
  • Create 3D-Renderings utilizing programs like SketchUp, Revit and Enscape.
